...although today is a different story! Especially after missing my damn train home by about 10 minutes. Had to wait an hour for the next one in the lovely confines of Penn Station.... as I watched Wednesday turn into Thursday.
Met up with Aldo, Dexter Rutecki, MountainMan, Elevens, and Plakespear...
Had a word or two with Seth Morrison and CR Johnson...
...and had way too many vodka tonics after donating blood earlier in the day.

Here's my movie review:
It was a packed house and the room had a nice energy to boot. A lot of ladies were around (did anyone see the blonde w/ CR? - amazing) and the booze was flowing.
Best opening segment in a ski movie ever. I loved seeing all of the boys eating shit and whipping out. It's rare to see them fall and I was under the impression that all rock stars stick their landings - funny stuff.
I'm going to catch a lot of shit for this but I'm tired of all the park and jib shit that seems to be taking center stage....it reminds me of ballet skiing in the 80's and we all know how gay that was. Yes, I recognize that it's a skill but it reminds me more of gymnastics than skiing. Besides CR & JT, what other new schoolers even ski big mountain lines these days? Tanner, Phil's, Vinnie, etc...learn to make big turns on big faces. Watching you all spin in the park or hit man made jumps in about as exciting as a day on a jet ski. It seemed like we saw a bunch of guys hitting the same jumps in the park over and over again - need to add some varity to those hits.
Shane's segment was great and his helment cam was the best footage to date. Imagine looking down a 2000 foot cliff and huking it.
Over all, it's a good film but not their best. Besides Seth, CR and Shane, I saw little skiing that I was truely impressed with and think MSP might be heading over to the Parkside.
Use the force Luke - ski big lines with few turns....
Just my opinion...and yes I had an igneous shirt on.

RUINED the Theory 3 show! they had some good segements but grinding the same concrete stair 6 times is boring as shit

Sage is an old school new schooler. He might be young like the rest of the jibbers but that's where the similarities end.
He kills it in the back country and charges big lines. Shit the kid grew up skiing Targee/Jackson and spent a few years in LCC -
I've never seen him in a park segment and would consider the fact that he has been in a few IFSA events - that he's a big mountain man and not a new school jibber.

I agree with your assessment of the movie.. I still think that "the original" Ski Movie was the best of them all. Every time I hear "Baracuda" I think of the intro!! :cool:

I agree with most that there was "too much jibbing, less big mtn old school style." I think that was my review last year too with Ski Movie III. I guess MSP is going more the way of new school, whereas TGR still has a good mix of both. This was apparent in last year's Prophecy showing. Maybe we should expect this going into the MSP movies and take it for what it is. I haven't seen this year's TGR yet so I can't comment on that one.
All in all, I still had a blast. Got to meet a bunch of maggots, watch ski porn, drink NBA and PBR, win free swag. How could you not have a good time. I'll see everyone at the TGR flick in NYC. Hopefully I can make it to pregame this time. It all depends if I bring my "groupies" :D

Sadly, being 5'8" on a good day and completely zonked of energy at the end of the show, I was unable to garner any free schwag at all :(

Believe it or not, this is my first time on the board since the show. Good to meet up with everyone. Asked a few people if they had change for a nickel, but got some strange responses. Elevens' Iggy shirt and Dex's PowMag hat were dead giveaways. I ended up drinking until about 1 AM- caught the last train back to Princeton.

ahh yes, more reviews of focused from people who obviously had a few too many drinks before the movie started, or just don't get it. apparently you completely missed hugo harrison utterly destroying everything underneath his skis. must have been pissing when wendy fisher was gettin' some. and aaron mcgovern, totally unimpressive. Plus showing pollard and pep skiing as much if not more big mtn terrain then park. Damn msp for showing all jibbing. Even worse that they are showing jibbers actually skiing...somewhat well :rolleyes: I suggest you get a timer and actually measure the amount of time with skiers hitting jumps, and measure the amount of time of skiers actually skiing various things. Jib heavy, or an actual attempt to evenly show how kick ass skiing is these days?

While I actually agree with you in that it was better than some people have reviewed, you really don't do anything to refute the two quotes you pulled out. You're not really saying this was MSP's best effort, are you? You don't think there was more jibbing in this one than the others? Yeah, there was great big mountain stuff too, but some of these guys obviously want a little more of it.

Uh, pointing out multiple impressive skiing efforts? It is possible that the original reviewer accidentaly overlooked several awesome segements. There was definately more jibbing in this than in msp movies of the past, i.e. pura vida, sick sense, etc... but the content reflects the current state of skiing.

That's cool that you want more big mountain, but it is just tiresome to hear negative comments about ski movie content. for some reason though, message boards sure bring it out of people. Skiing is fucking rad no matter what discipline (except snowlerblading!), and i just don't understand how people can loose stoke or be bummed out that there isn't enough of a certain aspect, especially when the filmmakers went out of their way to document all sides equally. It's all sliding downhill on snow with skis, it all kicks ass, and it should all bring equal stoke value. It's even cooler these days that you have so many filmmakers documenting so many aspects of the sport. MSP has always tried to keep a good mix of freestyle and big mtn, TGR focuses more on the big mountain and pow, and PBP is straight jibbing. And it all evens out in the end. Remember, for every person that complains about too much jibbing, there is probably someone out there complaining about too much big mountain. Give the msp boys some credit, not criticism.

I don't think that msp needs any credit. I think it is understood that they stand on top of the mountain with TGR. I also think that people getting bummed out by their most recent effort is a testament to the bar that they have set.
These guys are living the dream and a lot of us sit in offices all day. They provide a lot of the stoke that keeps folks like me going during the slow months. I don't know a lot of people that look forward to the next Paramount picture, but everyone in skiing gets fired up for msp. It is difficult to argue that they have not shifted their focus towards the park. In my book, hitting bc kickers does not constitute backcountry skiing.
The Wendy Fisher seg was amazing, no doubt.
Perhaps we are too critical, but msp has given us a lot to cheer about over the years, that is why we expect so much. Why so defensive?

Some people were just stating that there was more jibbing in this one, which you admit, and that they wanted more big mountain. I don't think anyone was bagging on MSP, and if you go back and look at what Elevens wrote it was pretty positive. It's fine to promote all ski movies and feel good that they're being made, but if people are going to post reviews what's the point of not mentioning things you thought could have been improved?Quote:
