I want to take a level 1 class in early March, and I can travel anywhere in North America. Which organizations give the best level 1 class and why? Thanks in advance. Also, I'm a boarder, so I can't do Alta, and I don't have a splitboard, so I would need to use snowshoes. Thanks.
CAA level one will get you way more info then a level 1 in the States but it costs way more.
Where do you ski? The best Level 1 is probably the one that is in your neighborhood, because the snowpack that you look at resembles what you ski. I wouldn't want to take my level 1 in, say, Washington State, if I ride in Colorado.

I think AAI and AIARE courses are the two providers who are currently endorsed by the American Avalanche Association and AMGA. The movement to standardize what's taught is currently underway in the US and AAI and AIARE are the way to go if you have snow-pro aspirations. Among other course providers it's a crap shoot. You might have some highly-skilled jedi-level instructor or not at all.
Canada has good quality courses with a standardized curriculum. Their Rec I is similar to the US Level I but their Industry I course is something between US Level II and III.
