I just got the Jaks back from the shop after getting some Fritschis mounted on em. It took a while to figure out where to mount them, and now that I've got em back, they're looking a little too far forward. The boot centerline is about 2-3 cm above the top of the black "karhu" triangle on mine. I'm just curious to see where everybody else has these mounted?
Anyone with info on this, please respond.
My Jak's should arrive today or tomorrow. I'm running the same set-up this year as I move my Freerides from the Head Monster 85's to the Jaks. Where did you get them mounted? I'm taking mine to BD.
Evogear was pretty seamless. I called it in, spoke with Steve. Sounded like a cool cat. Styled me on shipping hook-up. I guess it pays to be a slut in the industry....
Karhu's website has a downloadable tech .pdf that describes recommended mounting points. http://www.karhu.com
call bd, wasatch touring, wild rose and a few other shops that have experience mounting and skiing these stix. they should know how they ski and at where they should be mounted for your skiing style. btw gramps, where'd you get them mounted?
gramps, mine are tele but I'd be happy to let you know where the mount is on them. You'd want to compensate for the fact that my binders are under the toe instead of in front of the toe. See here for pic.
Ah well, they're mounted already anyway some I'm gonna be trying them out before I decide to make any adjustments. I had it done at sports den cause i get half off there, and I went over it for a while with a good tech there. It looked good at the time, now I'm second guessing. No worries though, worst case, I ski on em a couple times, then pay a little to move a couple cm back.
Edit - Oh teledave - take a look at his skis and then at yours. Even though it looks like yours are mounted in the same place in relation to the topsheet design, it looks like his have a lot more light orange at the top than yours do. Are they the same length?
gramps, i just went through the same thing w/ my jaks. Mounted them myself and honestly spent hours researching/visualizing where i wanted to drill. Eventually got frustrated and went with my educated gut. Ended up w/ this:

also anyone notice that the Jaks aren't all that soft, atleast as soft as they are hyped up to be....in my opinion a decent bit stiffer than pistols, and B3's as well...I was expected something PR like, but i was pleasantly suprised...
I got this problem too. I want to be on the sweet spot for dh skiing not tele. Can anyone post any numbers I will mount them on monday. I live in japan so there are no dealers with jak mounting exp.
I have exactly the same problem!!! going to mount freerides on jaks on monday!!! did anyone alreadi ski them ( non snow here so far) ? what would you suggest?
When i called Karhu I was told that the center of the sidecut/the sweetspot of the ski is 832mm from the tail, near the triangle i believe....my edumacated guess would be boot center line at that triangle, or 832 mm...Quote:

I emailed Karhu customer service with the same question. They responded with this link :

It puts the boot center at 1,078 mm from the tip.
832mm from the tail + 10,078 mm from tip = 191 cm. Jaks are 190 so Z's measurement and the one in the tech manual file are pretty damn close, but not exactly the same. Or maybe they are and its just 1 cm longer from the curve at the tip. i'm not sure how they make the measurement.
Have any of you skied them yet? Words of wisdom? Mine are getting mounted on Monday.
my only problem with that was thats the 04-05 manual....and if you got yours off evogear like the rest of this board, they are 03-04 model....maybe thats where the problem is?? either way its a pretty small difference....Quote:

I noticed that too. When I emailed them I told them I had the 03-04 model, but their response was just the link. I know the skis have changed, but maybe this means the mounting point is the same? What are the actual changes between the years? Karhu's website says new graphics and a more durable topsheet(extra layer of metal? stiffer?) I think I'm going to go with 832 from the tail unless someone who has already mounted and skied them has something to say.Quote:

When I look a look at the store most of those specs from karhu were right on.
I went 1 cm up from the toeline, I have a big boot, so that put my bootcenter slightly ahead on 832mm...

I've got the 190 Jaks about to get freerides installed, I was thinking of comparing boot centre with the motherships...any one tried this?
I did the opposite, used Jak mounting info to throw some tele bindings on some motherships. The information should be interchangeable...not much difference in ski, and no difference in shape/running surface/mounting point.
Just to confirm, the Karhu tech manual for 04-05 Jaks can be used for the 03-04 Jaks. Same dimensions.
