Best super lightweight base layer pants?

Looking for a true featherweight long pant type dealio for under the ski pants. Preferably would be wearable on the drive home without looking like you're walking around in your underwear when you stop for beer. A fly and pockets would be cool. Not tights or traditional long-johns.

I tend to get too warm with 'normal' weight stuff under my slightly insulated pants, and not warm enough in only my skivvies.

This may sound like an easy task, but nothing I've been able to find is really light-weight enough. Anyone seen anything like this out there?

I'll add to the question, I'm looking for warm base layer that you could also wear around for apre or even around town walking the dog or something. The best thing I've found is Lululemon and if you know what that is you probably know why I'm looking for something else. Anyone make stylish merino wool pants? (not tights)

Maybe some lightweight wool dress pants?

I have some patagucci R1 pants for this kind of thing, but they ain't groovy looking, nor do I care. Elastic waist, zip side pockets, no fly. I see tons of this kind of thing around - I mean, you could wear sweats, but nothing REALLY light.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming please.

Try running pants. I have a multiple pairs for working out/running and they're awesome, never worn them under ski pants but now you have me thinking.

Looseish fit, stretchy, lightweight, pockets, possible problem with the leg opening zipper depending on how you want it to interface with a ski boot. Hit up Roadrunner Sports and Super Jock'n'Jill, they might fit the bill.

Update: Just tried on Nike running pants under ski pants and with a boot and they fit great, super comfy. The leg opening was just wide enough to fit over boots without unzipping. I might have to give this a shot.

How light are they? Presumably made of some wicking, manmade stuff?

Mine are Nike Dri Fit, poly/spandex blend, very soft to the touch, the material is thinner than most of those techy workout t-shirts you see around. Adidas and other companies also make similar stuff.
