'05's have addressed the problems that i had with it (not because of me!) so now the head tube is a bit slacker and the bottom bracket has been lowered. Not too shabby looking!

I hear what your saying but I personally kinda like the longish geometry of the asx. it's one of the few larges that i feel really fits me since I am pretty tall. i test road on a bunch of different bikes and this one felt perfect to me right away...stoked my forks just came back from answer and they only charged me for shipping. it is ON!
Just so everyone knows where I stand, my ASX is the best trail bike I have ever owned. Maybe I'm still giddy from finally riding after a six-week absence but it ruled UPS/Porcupine. It ruled so convincingly that my long time riding partner went to Go-ride today and ordered one (and he already has a new AC-1 with upgraded Hopes and a Slider Plus). At least I did find out from Krispy that the orange paint is done, Yeti is not going to use it or the puke green next year. Hopefully Hev and I will be the only orange ones round these parts. I was so giddy at Go-Ride that I bought a new spring for my DH9 just cause I wanted to buy it something too (gotta spread my Yeti love evenly throughout the bike quiver).
Tech tip: I went with the “Ghetto” tubeless setup and love it. I cut 24” tubes in half, stretched them over the rim (there should be about 1” of excess tube sticking out past the rim), installed the tire, removed the valve core at the stem, installed two scoops of Stan’s, re-installed the valve core, rotate the tire for a bit, inflate to about 40 lbs (use an air compressor if you can, a hand pump is kinda tough), trim the excess tube about 2mm from the bead and rim (I used a razor and applied enough pressure to bend the razor a bit, this made a really smooth cut as I spun the wheel). You will have to check air pressure a few times until the Stan’s sets up but once the bead is set, you’re ready to go. I rode all weekend without losing a pound and really felt that the traction was vastly improved (I passed twice on the inside that I swear I’ve never even looked at before). Lastly, no pinch flats, ever, ever again.
Did I mention that I really love my ASX? :D
Wow Mr. AG - almost makes me want to trade in my FXR for an ASX! Actually I got on Frizzo's a bit and the bikes are incredibly similar. The Yeti feels a bit taller and the 1.5 headtube makes the fork noticeably stiffer, but otherwise they're birds of a feather. I wonder how an '05 Z1 w/ 150mm up front would do to that bike... :D

I think the Z150 would be great on either bike. I am very happy with the Sherman though, works great and pretty stiff.
I'm running 2.5 Trail Bears and did have a problem with flatting until I went Ghetto. The Trail Bear is a single ply and I don't usually have very good luck with them but these are working great (Krispy is running them as well). Once they are done, I'll propably go back to a two-ply 2.5 but for the rest of this year, these are going to work. Are you using steel tire lever's? If not, get some.
I'll throw in my vote. A-SX = ruler of all trail bikes. I am so in love with that bike. The other day I rode with a friend of mine who is stuck in the hardtail, sub 24 pound mtn bike era and although I was huffing, I shadowed him all the way to the top of the trail. I think you know what happened on the way down. :D
I'm running maxxis minions, I guess a little heavy, but I don't usually have to worry about flatting, if I do I'm gonna need steel levers.
Mr. AG, when are you riding ups/porcupine again? And let me know when you guys want to come up here and shuttle some runs.
what do your AS-X's weight???
One that i rode weighed in at about 34 lbs with XTR, single crown fork, wheels weren't super beefy (don't remember what they were)
