For grad school I got a book called something like, "Excel for MBA". It came with a CD that had spreadsheets pre-built for most cor fin questions. As far as learing cor fin, it really depends on if your prof is more into theory or application. Generally, you only need to read about a quarter of the text. Don't get too worked up about the derivation of the formulas and stuff. If your no good with math, why are you taking cor fin? If you're getting an MBA with a concentration in marketing, don't worry. No marketing guy ever got finance, I deal with it every day.

Once you've learned net present value and IRR you've got it. The rest is just fancy words that make finance people feel important.
I hated math in high school. i figure with a little practical application in my head now it will be better. thanks for the tip foggy - i'll check that out.

I am in my second year of Biz School. I have some nifty excel spreadsheets already prefabbed. Send me a PM with your email and I can send them over. They will allow you to get the hang of things much faster.
UTDave was right, NPV and IRR are what you are often after. But, you have to get the numbers to plug into those equations to make it all happen.

utah dave's got it right. the rest is jargon. as to learning npv and irr there are HP business calculators with manuals that will give you clear examples. Also excel has has functions that calculate each.Quote:

Corp fin = bad memories. The excel stuff and formulas are fine, it's just the way that the test questions are designed to fuck you up that makes me mad.
Also, glad to have a Honk sighting - was wondering where he'd got to... :D

1: Open Excel.
2: In a blank worksheet, select "Save as" and choose "Save as web page".
3: Click on Publish and Add interactivity.
4: Save as any name you like.
5: Load in the page with MS Internet Explorer, Excel will appear in the webpage.
6: Go to row 2000 Column WC
7: Highlight all of row 2000 and press Tab to make column WC the active column.
8: Hold the keys Ctrl, Alt, Shift and click on the Office Icon
