A couple shots from Sunday. First time taking my DSLR in my boat, Didn't really have time to stop and shoot, but this is from our portage at the rapid Big Splat

Lead in rapid. Supposedly a really sticky, munchy hole in the middle of the horseshoe there

that rock right there on the bottom right is the splat. the 15ish footer is the big with most of the water hitting that rock

the bane of my day. The Jefe is not the boat for me. super stable but it was way too much work trying to get it where i wanted

try the hero line from jackson, I like it. I paddle the super hero a lot. We run the Colorado mank though, haven't been out east yet.

that is actually what I am used to, and have one for me back in Cali. I am just waiting for my wife to ship it out to me. just in time for the creeks to start flowing

Nice shots, next time you run the splat, 1st drop is the hard part. Years ago folks used to run splat and carry 1st island, go figure.

Lot of us run the H80 but I like the P boat Knarli Gnar alot too.

Nice! It's headed back up (along with the Blackwater).

Splat isn't super difficult, but it does have some bad consequences for messing up.

it looked very much like a stick your line and you would be fine. but its the getting to your line that is the issue. I probably wouldn't run it a borrowed boat thats for certain. i had enough trouble staying on line for small rapids.

Well put. It is a difficult rapid to run correctly the first time. Really need to run the main drop driving pretty hard right-to-left, but the whole thing is falling away from you and makes it hard to see where you need to be.

Seen lots of boaters run the line too far right and end up in the seam, or too straight and into the splat rock during their first runs (myself included).

Big Sandy is just plain stoopid fun. It's a beautiful creek and an all time classic class IV run.
Splat is loads of fun and classic southeast pool drop. The lines are pretty straight forward if you know how to boof. Run it next time and you'll be glad you did.
I have no idea what it'd be like to live in Mo'Town, but to be that close to that much stellar creeking and that much precipitation would be amazing.

BTW, what was it running that day? Looks like about 5.8?

No, it's higher than 5.8. Looks around 6.3 or so, which isn't really the best first-timer level for Big Splat.

it was about 6.5 if i recall correctly
