And just wonder why you have to live in Boston or Worcester(AH) or ewherever, and be so far from the snow falling and so long from even pushing through shrub and 6 fresh and deal with Bars closed at 2 am, these same fuckifgn girls- its just rtidiculous to even think about in a literal sense...

Oh and if the Red Sox break my heart again idont think i can keeop living here. ill either give up the team or the city b any more words of wisdom from the ODB?

i never wonder why i have to live in boston. because i don't, and niether do you.

i moved away for five years for snow, i moved back for career experience things. it was what i felt i needed to do. don't really regret it, and i even feel like i'm a stronger skier now than i was skiing the slop on mt. hood and batchy. But my plan continues to evolve, and i'm surely not staying here that much longer.

It can be a little disheartening sometimes when you really want to ski and they're reporting 16 inch powder dumps here. Then you go to VT and it's nothing but ice and hardpack! But it's still skiing, the air is still fresh, the mountain is still beautiful, the happy hour is still happy, and you just gotta make the best of it dood.

Personally, I'm only here (in CT) until my son graduates from High School (7 more years). Then I'm off. Where to? Who knows. But most situations in life are relatively temporary. Perhaps you can get thyself out of Mass. sometime soon if that's what you dream of doing. Get dreaming and planning!

I love new england. I live in NH, and if you live here you like: bad weather, bitching about bad weather, politics, trees, and bitching about massholes. The great thing about here is there's always something to complain about, so everyone thinks it sucks really bad. However, the truth is that it's a singular place that I love. I'll most likely leave for a few years soon, but I'm sure I'll be back.

Best big city in the East for skiing, no doubt there..

simple: i don't live here for the skiing. for everything non-skiing (lump riding in with skiing), i sure as shit don't want to live in any of those places over Boston. Boston is a real city (sorry, SLC), by the ocean, with many cutting edge jobs that pay bank--I'm sure all of those places you listed also have plenty of cutting edge jobs paying bank, but i'm not feeling them so much that i'm going to drop what i'm doing and leave until my current gig runs its course (plus, i hear colorado sucks). if skiing is all you've got going on, then sure, get the fuck out as fast as you can, otherwise if you're bored, just go yogging on blue hill ave or tailgate gomers with nh plates who can't figure out that there are 2 lanes on huntington ave.

I always have to laugh a little bit at people who ask me 'how can you live in NYC?'. I wish NY were as close to good NE skiing as Boston is, or that NY were in the middle of BC's Coast Range, but as far as everything else goes, there's no better city to live in. A lotta people just don't get it (I think the 'don't get it' factor is lower with Boston), and I don't try to explain. If you gotta ask, you'll never know. It's like trying to explain powder skiing to someone.
It's still hard to be a skier living here, though.

heh. all my highschool buddies live in the city, and they are all like, "WTF mate, how can you not live in NYC?" so the 'i don't get it factor' door can swing both ways. CROSS THE STREAMS, REVERSE THE FLOW!

Don't worry, I have accepted the fact that road and traffic design and flow in Massachusetts were designed by a drunken half-wit with a sadistic streak in him. I just park my ass at Alewife and ride the T when in boston. I do believe that Mass. drivers are better than people make them out to be, just their anger makes them seem a lot worse.

However - I'd happily trade living in MD to live in Boston again. You fockers are LUCKY! Hell, you're only 2hrs+ from skiing just about anything in the NE that's WORTH skiing.

... and once you're here, it's so difficult to consider leaving. it really grabs hold of you, no matter what your interests outside of the city may be. that dilemma is the bane of my existence.

Yeah, most of those ramblings were more related to running into an ex-gf at the bar last night who i hadn't seen in a while. People can be mad fake sometimes and they just annoy the shit out of you. Throw in some weed smoking and reading about snow everywhere mad me a little paranoid. Obviously this is home and there's a ton of reasons to live here, I'll always wanna come back, just right now I probably need to get out for a while (again) when I finish schoolieyo. Actually its a beautiful fall day right now and I'm gonna go for a run by the Fells. Sorry for the negativity...

Actually the roads were designed by cows... and drunken half-wits. The drunken half-wits thought that the cows were smarter than they were (they very well may have been), so they built the roads where the cows went. Regardless of who was smarter, neither the cows, nor the drunken half-wits, had any knowledge on urban planning or traffic flow, and Boston got lots of streets that look like a rally course (read VFW Parkway) and intersections out of a geometry book (every angle possible, except of course right angles).

Ya i live 20 minutes away from Boston and i think its the greatest city on earth. Theres no other place in thw orld i would rather live. I got acess to some very nice employment options, and 2 hrs. away is some pretty sweet skiing. I have the patriots and the red sox (celtics don't count) :D. I probably will move out west for a year or somehting but i will probably end up back in Boston cause its the best city in the world.

I love Massachusetts....born and raised and I wouldn't change it if I could. I always thought that Mass had a lot to offer, and if you couldn't find something to do you weren't look hard enough. On one end you have mountains and truly rural communities, and on the other you have miles of beach and ocean, plus one hell of a city.

Worcester could use some work, but it's got a lot if you know where to look.

And as for the skiing....out of the 40 days I skied last winter 30 were at Wachusett. It's a challenge trying to keep it exciting, but when you're there with your friends it doesn't even matter that the mountain sucks and is filled with gapers. I'd take a day at Wachusett with my friends over a day out west by myself.

I just left Boston after about 6 years of living there. I got a degree from a good school, so maybe I could have been in on the cash money jobs, but a) there's a crapload of competition for entry-level stuff in Boston b)that's not what I wanted to be doing. I sat myself (and my girlfriend) down and thought about my priorities at 23 (then) years of age. I realized they were 1)skiing as much as humanly possible 2)mtn. biking my ass off 3)being able to afford beer in the fridge and food on the table without having to go into debt. Nowhere in any of that did Boston remotely fit in. Many of my friends were/are leaving Boston, skiing was 2-3hrs. away, biking at least 30mins away, my jobs in Boston had consisted of bike courier and bike shop employee, so I wasn't making any serious bank, in fact I was barely surviving paying Boston rent, and $4.00 pints.

So we upped and moved to Tahoe City, CA. Now I actually have more money because I actually pay much less rent than I did in Boston, I live around the corner from the bike shop I work at, and it's way better than any shop in Boston. I live 15mins. from Squaw and Alpine, and sick riding is right out my backdoor. I spend less money because I'm not going out every night, going to shows, bars, etc., and I actually enjoy that, and get way more stuff done.

So, it's all about priorities. That said, plenty of people make good bank in ski towns, so if you're in the right position, you could maybe have your cake and eat it too. If you can't live without the bustle of the city, than stay put, but that's probably the thing I'll miss least.

just move to SF for the best of both worlds: real city with great nightlife, culture, plenty of good jobs, kick-ass surfing/MTB'ing/road riding/windsurfing/kite surfing, etc right out yer back door, and awesome year around weather.

.... and, most importantly, Tahoe/Sierras close enough to hit all the pow days: angle yer job so you can spend a few days during storm cycles working from Truckee ;)

Also, you have Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Napa/Sonoma/Big Sur/ all within 1-4 hour drives, and one hour flight to SLC (or 12 hour drive) when ya feel the pull of Alta/Bird......
