Could have sworn this has been covered, but the trusty search is letting me down.
Anyway I wanted to hear opinions of shops in the Salt Lake area. My current boots are missing rivets, have cracked buckles, but serve as nice petri dishes. So I'm thinking of getting a second pair.
Any recommendations on where to get fitted for boots? Any places to watchout for? Totally shitty experiences?

You might also try Steve Bagley at Christy's(?) - second level, Snowbird Plaza.

Add my vote for The Sport Loft. Earl is very patient. Even with problem feet like mine.
I'll say the same thing about Earl at Sports Loft; he fixed a pesky problem with my boots last year for about half of the money even he estimated... :D
What brands does Sport Loft carry? Any idea?
Last year I remember Salomon, Atomic, Lange, and maybe one other. They don't have a huge selection but they do have the best boots from each company. Earl knows his shit and has skied in every boot and knows the fit and performance nuances of each. He gets another vote from me.Quote:

While Earl is the mang and Sport Loft is the best in SLC for boots, my feet don't go anywhere but Surefoot at The Canyons in Park City. Ted knows his stuff and it's a cool place to hang while you wait for the BC posse to show. Steve at the PC store is equally the mang, plus they are open for biz right now.

i haven't check hours at the loft, but i got mine fitted sometime in october last year.
edit: i have about 40 skin days, 30 bootpack and many inbounds. these boots are nowhere near skied out yet. (x-wave 10.0)
I'll second that for Surefoot at PCMR or at The Canyons.
I wouldn't let anyone touch my boots except for Ted at The Canyons surefoot.
I've heard Surefoot prices are $800 and up. How the hell can you justify bootfitting as expensive as that?
Do you like pain in your feet while you are skiing, hiking, skiing, hiking? I've always had serious boot problems before I went to surefoot.....and that's after getting them "properly fitted" at some people in the PNW that supposedly rule at it. I like my boots now, even after 2-week stretches of non-stop skiing.Quote:

I have custom footbeds that still gave me pain in my right foot all season long, and it wasn't for lack of effort by the folks in the shop.
The Surefoot web site also doesn't give prices. Bad marketing, IMO.
Earl and Jeremy at the Sports Loft are true pros. They sure aren't cheap, though.

i went to innerbootworks until i had to buy proform from a local shop at college for money reasons. but....as luck would have it...i ran back to vt to ski one weekend when it dumped that spring and i met a guy that worked at the surefoot at killington....went in at the end of the summer and he gave me proform on footbeds and liners. i thought those liners would be my undooing at first, but now that i have broken them in i cant imagine life without them. also, i did need to get the footbeds altered a bit, but one good point for surefoot is that you can take them to any surefoot in the country and they will fix their work for free. i had to do that with mine when i got out to SLC last winter.
my problem now is needing new heel pieces for my boots. :( mt hood was unkind, to say the least, of the heel piece carnage my boots suffered this summer.
