Boots w/ Splitboard?

A buddy got a wicked deal on a new Burton Escape Splitboard, but isn't sure about boots. Any of you single-plank guys know anything about Burtons SB binding, I see its a step-in type but not much more. So is there a compatible AT boot or is Burtons own step-in type boot pretty good for hiking/skinning?
Damn, I wish he'd just ski.
