Mounted one Dynafit ST on the Manaslu. No problem. Started to mount the toe piece on the second ski and thought I'd get the screws started them back out and fit with the toe plate for a final mount. First screw I tried it on went in fine but when I tried to back it our the nylon insert spun with it !! Can't get it out or in. Two threads showing, the rest are buried. Any ideas?
drill the screw out with a power drill (you'll have to destroy the screw & get a new one)
remount on the other mount position, or drill a new set of holes 1cm forward. but I'd return the ski under warranty.
oh, here's another idea.. take a small drill bit, and drill a little hole on the edge of the circular nylon plug... drill so that half the hole you are making is in the nylon plug, and half is in the adjacent ski material.
then try to fill the hole you just created, with epoxy or something, this might brace the nylon plug and prevent it from rotating...
(but I'd still return the ski under warranty.)
Think Dynafit would warranty a ski I bought used and self mounted? Who would I contact, Dynafit U.S. or an authorized dealer?
Doubtful but possible. I used to deal with Life Link on Dynafit stuff and they were pretty good to me, but Dynafit is now distributed by Salewa. . .Quote:

Thanks for the input. We'll see what they say. Unless I hear a better idea, the current plan for a fix is to drill out the screw and then the insert. Epoxy in a knurled, hardwood plug then drill, tap and re-screw. The wildsnow.com cutaway pic shows me what I have to work with.
Done it a few times on remounts before and it may even be stronger than the factory setup.

that's what I was worried about, and why it wasn't my first suggestion.
Personally I think you are screwed (no pun intended), and if you can't warranty it, you should just suck it up and drill new holes to mount at +1 if necessary.
I took another look at what I'm dealing with and realized the problem would be moot if I use rearward holes on front and back mounts. In the diagram I have off of Wildsnow the suggested mounting for 320 size boots is wrong. It shows using the back rear and forward front for the 320 mm boot I have (Megaride). Won't work, too long even with the heel piece adjusted full forward. I am currently mounted in the front/forward, rear/forward holes and the boot fits with the binding adjusted about midway.
It's the front/forward hole that is screwed up. Sooooo, if I use all rearward holes I won't have to deal with the problem mounting holes other than to cut off the screw and find a replacement and reset the 13 screws that are already in. Only difference would be to standing 16 mm back.
As an intermediate skier who has spent a lifetime skiing in the backseat (required for my nordic / BC gear, just starting with A/T) and using it as a PNW BC only ski, do you think I'll notice? I don't mean would you notice or would someone with tons of race/downhill training and experience notice?
I think you might but I'm sure you could adapt easily. I know you don't want to know whether I would notice because we aren't talking about me. But I am mounted front forward / back rear and am as far back as I would like to be on the ski, for my skiing style.Quote:
