Surface - some more skis I've never heard of

Well, after that awesome Ninthward thread, I couldn't resist mentioning this other ski company I heard about around these parts...

I should be able to inspect a pair soon. I'll let you all know what my impressions are. At least there's no "multi-density fiber ollie pad" :D
I'm surprised how many little jibber ski companies are popping up, especially considering what a hard, technical thing it's supposed to be to make a good pair of skis. I just wish some of these new ski companies were a little more like Igneous than 4frnt or whatever the jib flavor of the week is.

These guys are from Highland, Utah...near Provo. I saw them when someone slapped a "Surface Skis" sticker on the stop sign where 9400 S meets Little Cottonwood Road...looks interesting. Seriously, though, they do kind of have that Abercrombie look... :rolleyes:

And if there's three things indie rocker kids know, it's websites, photographs, and t-shirt design. Speaking of t-shirts...damn, those ladies modeling the girl shirts are pretty damn hot. Plus, if they ski, they seem supa dupa hot to me.

Now, do indie rock kids know anything about skis? Hmmm...not sure about that one.

After searching for hours on a powder day for my buddy's Dynastar Nobis's, I agree that white powder skis make as much sense as a concrete parachute.

Well, I got my hands on a pair last night, and no surprise, I was pretty un-impressed. They're soft as hell and pretty heavy to boot. I also checked out the torsional rigidity and there is none. I felt like I could twist em a whole 90 degrees (well maybe not quite that much) just holding them in between my feet. I told them their topsheets were nice though, cause they are pretty classy. They said a local artist did all the designs. They were going for a watercolor look this year, and they said they're gonna have different styles every year as far as topsheets. Nice guys, but I think there's probably a reason so much R+D goes into making skis...
