I know it's a dumb question, but I get tired of cleaning the bikes and all of my riding clothes several times a week, when it's been raining.
Has anyone put on temporary fenders to ride while it's muddy???
Did it do any good???
I know they would look bad, but I'm old enough it doesn't matter any more. ;)

I have a big T.H.E. downhill fender that i use during the muddy season. Does it keep your bike clean? Hahahahahahaha don't throw your hose away:D Does it keep your clothes clean? Keep packing a towel and garbage bag in your car (or a wipe for your plastic seat covers if you are pimpin').
But, the main thing, does it keep the mud from going all over your face and in your eyes, thereby preventing the most hideous pain ever for contact lens wearers? I would say for the most part a resounding almost all of the time. It is the best when you get off a super muddy trail onto a high speed fire road section and your tires decide to shed mud right towards your face. definately worth the weight in gold in these situations.
nah...fenders on a mtb bike are kinda like a full face for skiing...they just make you look radderer, which is what its allllll about ;)
Despite the harassment from the spandex-wearing, leg-shaving CC and roadie geeks, when it's sloppy out that front fender works wonders. All you have to do is look at what's under it after one of those rides - if it wasn't on the fender, most of it would be on you, usually in the face.
One question for WC and others, I've got a T.H.E. fender as well, but at least on mine it appears the stupid thing is just pushed into the fork with a big rubber bushing. Is this right? Anytime I have a good wreck, it pops off. Heck, sometimes if I stare at it wrong it pops off.
There are muddy days when I wish had them, especially the time I got an eyeful of mud at mach 1 and had to hit the brakes, barely missing trees and rocks.

fenders in utah? ...seriously I don't see the point. my trail bike came with a set and I took 'em off and threw them on my commuter. in CO climate (and I am assuming utah) if it is wet enough to use fenders the mud is generally very sticky or the trail turns into an erosion fest. a front one can prevent anoying mud flings to the eye but thats what goggles and glasses are for :D

I bought one of my bikes used and it came with a T.H.E. fender on it as well. I don't know who thought of it or if others have done this, but on my bike there was a star nut put in the bottom of the fork tube as well as the top. Then you just use an allen and bolt the fender right on the bike. It holds the fender on well.Quote:
