sick morphine the band not the opiate.
I like 'em. they had a pretty cool/funky sound. Too bad the singer/bass player died. actually thanks for reminding me Buster, I am about to go on a cd buying binge and one of their cd's might be a good call to add to the collection.
Love em'!
Great sound, pop in Like Swimming on the way to the mountain and get your head on right. Get I know you, to get you charged a bit, early to bed to remind you of what you should have done the night before an dididn't and then ramp back up with Murder for the Money. This was a basic staple for me for a long time drivin gup to the mountain.
Good stuff, from some really charged up guitar and horns to some really mellow tracks, they wrap it all up well.
Fav albums,
Like Swimming
Bootleg Detroit
And a tie for Yes and Cure for Pain.
Too bad as mentioned Mark Sandman is no longer residing with us, but left some great music. Never got to hear them but a friend that turned me on to them saw them a few times, said they were pretty solid in concert, wish I would have caught a show.
picked up Morphine: Yes as part of my cd buying binge yesterday, thanks for the reminder, fuggin SCHWEET album.
I may go back today and pick up...umm....Cure for Pain? is that the name of the album I'm thinking of? way too lazy to search the inter'd net right now.
Cure For Pain, yep.
If your diggin on Yes, you'll love this one.
Louder the better, IMO.
Buster, your musical preferences scare me, as I find them all too similar to mine. Do you also dig Ozomatli?
I like "The Night" the best - dark, meloncholy, excellent songs...
wow is "all your way" just the coolest song ever or what?!?!?!?!? If ever there was a song I was happy to have stuck in my head, it's this one!
Don't know Ozomatli. Living in the hinterlands and working with stiffs has it's disadvantages.Quote:

I'll check it out.
I'm just testing the waters to see how similar our musical tastes are. They're wildly different then either Morphine or Zappa. They're a mix between funk and latin music with touches of rap and hip-hop stirred in. Their latest album tries to mix in some Middle Eastern influences, but I'm not that impressed with it. Try to find their older stuff. Just about everything downloadable at the official site (http://www.ozomatli.com) is from the newest album. Seek out stuff from thier first album... like "O Le Le," "El Chango," or "Cut Chemist Suite." Good stuff.
Ozo on Amazon - there's some samples.
I loved morphine but my guy died, that was it for me.
They first came to my attention via David O. Russell's film Spanking The Monkey.
This was the song of their's that resonated the most with me:
This is my Morphine jam.

EDIT: weird, I stayed at a motel called the Wagon Wheel last week.
Here's a cool article looking back on Cure For Pain:

I freaking love Morphine. Had tix to see them with Soul Coughing at the Berkeley Greek when news of his passing came through. So sad. Sandman’s solo stuff is pretty good too. A good doc on him floating around that was really good. They were one of a kind to me.
I always liked the Harmonica based Treat Her Right, pre-Morphine. A buddy’s older sister went off to college in Boston and turned us on to them.
Treat Her Right was great
