Question re: Bindings for Gotama's

So I have done a search and found out that most people seem to be mounting gotama's with either Look P14 or Look P12.

I have Rossi Axial 120 's on my V-pro's and have no issues at all with them.

I'm almost sold on the Looks but just wanted to throw this out there - should I consider any other bindings or are the Looks the best thing going round?

Now all I have to do is find some of these bindings - quite a challenge given Australia's preference for mid fat's.

Any other hints or tips for mounting etc.

yep. why ruin a great ski with anything else? :)

same binding on mine.

a buddy of mine has his mounted with solly's, but he gets all his solly stuff free from mr davenport. he likes those, but the looks do look nice. I still can't get over the feeling that i'm gonna rack my butt on the heel piece. go with what you trust most. bindings are important.

I have, or had p12's on my gotamas, and they worked great last season. Currently trying to get my skis warrantied...

I see 914s on some Gotamas up here.

I'm a look fan.

Naxos on mine.

Get naxos or freerides.

Mmm, I dunno if you're aware that the Axial 120 and P12 is the same binding in different wrappings.

The brakaes on the Axial/P bindings are easily removable; i.e. you can just get a narrow binding and order a wider brake from somewhere if you can't find them locally. They're a breeze to put on yourself.

Watch out for the anal probe.

wide brakes for looks/rossis are hella asspensive. Like 40-50 bucks!!!!

Brad Holmes says that you should mount Markers, because they're the best damned binding. That's gold right there.

SKi magazine agrees with him too, just read their buyer's guide.

you are being taken for a ride if you are paying that much for a look brake.

yeah, should be closer to 10 or 15.

Anyone know where you can order the brakes online?

I have a pair of Look P9's that I am thinking of mounting onto the Gotama. I assume the brake is the only problem with them also?

I got some wide brakes for some Power 140s for about $50CAN so I guess I'm a sucker fool !!

I vote for Looks/Rossi as well, the only downside is the rumours that Trekkers don't work as well with them (you have to put the heel riser up I believe).

I've got some Freerides on my Kneissl Tankers, and can vouch for them on a soft snow ski as I don't huck ....

It is a lot of pesos but maybe an option.

I'd speak to Jindy Sports if you need Rossi brakes (the rep works there).

...only that really have to use the riser of the Trekkers to prevent the heel to hit the rearbinding.

But you are going uphill most of the time anyway, so it doesnt matter..

I didn't pay the $AUD530 they were asking here in Sydney.

I ended up buying from sportsliquidator.com and even with shipping and forex conversion I will have some Look P12 bindings with wide brakes for approx $AUD300.

tjb I will probably get them mounted at Jindy Sports so weekend after this one I will be out there busting the slushy spring snow on these puppies.

SnowRanger, I'll stand corrected! Thanks for letting me banish that dis-service to Looks from my mind. Best bindings then on all fronts (elasticity, retention, Trekker compatible) ??

As for the other question(mounting), I'm curious too. Flat or on a riser? Where volkl says, or up a bit? Thanks for any tips...

Put my Rossi 140 without risers to gotama. The shop tried to use the long screws (wich are intended for the 10mm riser) .
Wich in turn resulted to a buckled base...So take care that you have the shorter screws when you are mounting the bindings without a riser.

Havent personally had any problems wihout the riser.

Easy to put on a edge, and easy to keep there.
I have self 183 and mounted regularily. Turns on a dime if needed.

Love the skiis...2 more months untill...again...swoosh...

Good to hear. I have 183's coming my way and just ordered some P12's. Now the hard part... waiting. Thanks for the tip on the screws. Will keep an eye out for em.
