As far as I can tell, Temescal is in Oakland. Oakland is part of San Francisco (or the "Bay Area" if you want to get technical). That is Northern California by pretty much any definition, not "So Cal".
You did have me a bit worried there, for a minute, though.

Dont be fooled. there are great whites in socal. I have personally seen them. Luckily i was on the cliff south of san onofre (trails) watching.
Check out sharkresearchcommittee.com and hit the pacific coast shark news tab on the left. It will give you detailed descriptions of sightings, where they were and sometimes pic of seals/dolphins with big bite marks and chunks missing.
