edit: I remember in a previous article last year one of his main arguments was that he couldn't buy the equipment he needed to compete with. I think he said that the skis (because he is a freestyler) are only available through the company and not through retail. I might be wrong though.
He actually won some money from compitition- something like 30-40K and accepted it. But he then gave that money to charity in order to allay the concerns of the NCAA.
The guy's getting totally hosed. It sucks.
I thought about the company thing a long time ago. I assume that lawyers he has on the case are smarter than me and that it wouldn't work for some reason. I can see one reason, "sponsor" wants Jeremy Bloom to endorse its product not the Jeremy Bloom Corp. I would think though that all of his sponsors would be willing to work w/ him on this thing. Seems there has to be a way around it but who knows what it is.
What's total bullshit is that some jackass can sign a $200K signing bonus for baseball and get a salary while going to college then play for a football team and that's all good. Pretty fackin' rediculous if you ask me...
They should let the man play!
The NCAA sucks. I personally feel college athletes should be paid, if someone is willing to pay them. Especially endorsement contracts. Coach K makes millions from Nike. The players should see some of that.
