hardrider and I got to fondle some new K2s today. They had the Maid'ens and Apache Chiefs.
The Chiefs feel absolutely bomber, fackin' stiff, and have sweet dimensions too (edit: see Caddy's post below).
The Maid'ens were really stiff in the middle 80% or so and then had a nice flex in the tip and tail.
Obviously don't know how they ski or how well they'll hold up, but they sure do seem like some nice boards.
Chiefs look sweet. But no turned up tail which means Ill never own a pair.

Best K2 I've skied on since a race-stock pair of Merlin V's, solid smooth feel, like old K2's. Actual buildup underfoot and no waving like lawnchairs. Nice ski.
Hey, Arty, have you picked up a Kahuna before? Maiden any stiffer, anyone?
Like the dimensions, but still think the Kahuna is too soft, I thought that I remembered someone saying the Maiden was the same just different topsheet.

I've got Kahunas. Like Hardrider said, it's a really progressive flex...very soft tip, but a decent platform. In fact, I found them to ski pretty stiff on hardpack (I mounted neutral, no fore or aft, I may have to give fore a try this season), in that I still had to pressure the tip quite a bit. I think I'll try and find some of those drive+ ramps, the bindings have no lifters whatsoever on them now and the forward cant might help put a little more pressure on the tips, enhancing performance. If that doesn't work, I might remount forward. We'll see.
Maidens are the exact same ski, but are offered in a shorter length as well (179). So they're not as big and noodly.
Then you might wanna change your handle dood ;) Nah, maybe not a noodle but it ain't a plank either, imo well on the soft side of the spectrum.Quote:

Btw. who of you guys would even consider the Apache Chief in the 99mm waist range with Bro's coming out and all? Or do they have too little rear tail too? Hardrider, do you even go switch? Personally I'd never compromise in a skis stability/durability in order to get even the slightest twin; though of course it won't bother me uf it's there and doesn't take away too much effective base/edge length.
Apache Chief=sleeper hit of the coming season.

Word on the street is, the new Seth Pistol, called the "Seth Vicious", will be modeled off of the Big Chief in cut and construction. Perhaps a similar flex too? But twinned for sure. There you go, Hardrider.
And no, I doubt they'll be noodles. They don't seem too stoked to repeat the flex of the first year SPs.

I would like to get the bro's, but the only $450 I've got is going towards a pair of Spatulas.
I think it's still in testing. But supposedly it's in the bag, a done deal. Probably out at mid-season, which is when the factory team stuff gets released...Quote:

I'm looking at the Apache Pros simply because the BroModel is too long for to use as an everyday board here on the EC. If a 180 or so cm version comes out sometime before next year, I'm ready to buy a pair, so hoepfully that works out, cuz I really don't feel like supporting K2.

The bros would be perfect for those deep days at jay.
ski the bros every day at jay.. theyre not too big for the ec.. i spent a lot of the season on 200s in the trees.. and a lot more of it on 189s.

Neither of these skis would be purchased for this season anyway, I'm investing in Body Armor and such for this year and next season will be dedicated to revamping and upgrading the quiver.Quote:
