I used a friend's older SOS analog beacon all last year and am about ready to pull the trigger on a new beacon. Just wanted to see how many people still run into analog only carriers in the backcountry (or inbounds at this point). Most of my friends have Trackers or Pieps. But, I'm thinking it would be the responsible thing to carry a beacon that will do both analog and digital just in case... thoughts?
Thoughts? I think you need to do some homework/searching. IIRC, analog or digital only relates to the receive function. Years back, before your time, there was a switch from one freq to the current one, so a few beacons had both/dual freq receive, like the Ort F2. Now, it's all the same freq.
From what i've read/heard/experienced, analog beacons still work great for those of us that learned and practiced for many many hours how to interpret the sound, and digital are great for folks more new to the program.

thanks tye, i knew they all used the same freq. but i thought transmission was different in some way, not just reception. i pretty much just read all of beaconreviews so that definitely helped. cyber, not only will i take bacon but fine belgian chocolate and cristal for the rescuers.

For the record, there are older anolog beacons that used a different frequency.
