How easy is it to put a plate on already mounted skis?

How easy is it to put a plate on already mounted skis?

I have some (already mounted) slalom skis that I want to put a plate on, and I just wanted to know how I should go about doing that? I'm thinking I should just take it to a shop and have them take care of it, because I don't really know enough about bindings to do it myself. Any idea how much this would/should cost? Or if it would be easy enough to do myself?


Also, any reccomendations on plate height? I'll be using them for slalom racing...

What plate were you going to use?

Depending on the plate, some use the same hole patterns, some completely different.

The salomon slalom plates also differ on length depending on boot sole length, medium and large, 259-318mm and 319+ respectively.

Also remeber that a solid plate versus a two part will stiffen the ski more so than the two part. Basically have more of a tendency to get you kicked into the back seat.


Unless the plate your using matches the hole pattern, I'd take them to a shop. I can't remember any slalom's with more than a single plate (no additional riser, between the plate and the binding). You might want to check some of the VIST plates, they are likely cheaper than most of the other stuff out there.

I was look at this two-piece VIST plate

It's fairly cheap so I think I may pick one of those up, and after what you said about solid plates it makes me want to steer away from them.

I'll be taking a road trip to some unknown shop in NH on saturday with one of my buddies to get this skis mounted, so maybe I'll check around there for different plates and costs.
