First potential landfalling Maine hurricane in quite some time - supposed to hit Downeast, but should send us solid overhead surf today into tomorrow.:smile:

I don't know. That path shows a Nova Scotia land fall just missing DownEast.
I think the last one to hit Maine was Hurricane Bob, which actually dropped to a Tropical Storm just after running through R.I./Cape Cod. We briefly got huge surf from that - triple overhead that dropped to head high or less by morning.

Last night was good up my way, though there was more SW in the swell than I expected. There was an interesting wraparound point into the river mouth that will bear further investigation.
Yesterday turned out to be warbly, with multiple mixed swell, and not as big as I'd hoped. At least the wind wasn't up. The swell of course peaked in the dark, with periods approaching 16 seconds (very rare on east coast).
This morning through about noon was quite good, head high, with bigger sets, and clean.
A bit disappointing though. I was really hoping for some bigger stuff with this swell.
Looks like some long period swell from subtropical storm Laura on the way....

When Bob hit the winds turned off shore just before dark. We looked at the Wells Harbor Jetties from near Route 1, on the bluff just above the marsh. Say, about a mile away. Not only could we see waves breaking on Drakes and Wells Beach, but the peaks were out side the jetties - and we could see the bowl of the waves.
Super stoked we went to sleep. In the morning it was barely head high and gone by evening.
Gabriella, on the other hand, was something special.
