smartest dumbass I know
This is actually a serious post. A freind of mine left for Israel last week to work for the summer teaching at some Israeli computer camp. This guy used to be the smartest person I know. He has degrees in Mech. Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, speaks fluent Japanese, and has other outside interests besides being a Dilbert. Which is probably part of his problem. Why the hell anyone- particularly an American- would want to go to the middle east right now is beyond me. The guy isn't even Jewish. He could be making huge amounts of cash, but instead he decided to make small change in a war zone. His reasoning: "When will I have another chance to do something like this?"
Smartest dumbass I know.

Plakes,
Interesting topic. A friend of mine just returned from visiting relatives in Israel. Travelled the whole country. His comments? "Jerusalem is a ghost town. But for the rest of the country, it is business as usual." Very much a disconnect from the way Americans view Israel as an armed camp. Said he had trouble getting into discos and other public places because they were so packed. I don't think that your friend will have a problem.
