yesterday the road was closed to the mt evans summit due to snowfall. I have never seen so much rain and moisture in the front range. I need to see whats up at the higher elevations. Anyone want to join me for a ride tommorrow and possibly some nice snow up high?

SheRa and I skied the "Top Gun Couloir" above Summit Lake last Thursday. She might post a TR, once she's back from her latest roadtrip. Any way, we had a lot of fun, and the snow was fairly good. There is still some worthwhile lines to ski on Evans. The new snow from yesterday should help keep the existing snow ski able.:D

what are the hikes like nowadays to get to some decent skiing??
how much vert, etc?
I could maybe possibly do something up high somewhere on Wed...
We hiked about 500 vertical to get to the base of the snow. Then we hiked up 1,050 vertical in the couloir. But, you can drive to the summit parking and do a car shuttle thing. But, we didn't have 2 cars.

PM me tonight if you want to go tomorrow morning. I was thinking of going to Rollins Pass, but heard that it's already gone. Doesn't make sense because it was skied last August, but I dunno. Anybody seen it recently?

Earlier in the season, yes. I haven't dropped in from the top, but I think Halsted said there'd be some downclimbing, like at A Basin. The terrain looks very nice though:Quote:

The big run that will be good right now is a traverse and a little downhill from the top. I did it last year and it was reallly easy to get to:

Then you hike around the lake to get to the parking lot at the bottom. No elevation gain there either.
I was mistaken about what I heard about Rollins Pass and it should be skiable. The weather is cloudy outside here in Blue River this morning, but I'm going to drive over there in a bit anyway. Maybe I'll get lucky and get to ski, but I'm going to look at it in any case.
I was wondering..has anyone ever done Mt. Massive? I seem to remember back when I lived in Leadville for a time, that Massive looked like alot of fun if you could get up there without killing yourself.
