Paying my dues... First Float Trip
We fly into the lake amid strange layers of clouds. Land unload inflate load the rafts scarf down a turkey sanwich and start rowing. The first few miles is slow and sandy, the oars set up for someone else throw my hands together on every stroke. We enter some fast water with rocks, lots of rocks. I try my damndest to avoid every single one. My ass end is heavy as fuck so every rock I hit I run the risk of hanging up and slowing down my advitated boss. Finally we make camp I struggle with the tents thinking "what did I get myself into." Clients have caught a few fish, grayling and rainbows plus a couple old sockeye. I'm poopped after dinner I do the dishes and collapse in my tent wiped out. I wake up the next morning sore as all get out eat breakfast pump water take down tents clean camp top off and load boats, kiss ass etc etc. This would be my life for seven days. More fish, less ass kissing, more fishing, less being yelled at more good food, and less pain made the trip improve steadily but still being a second guide to a guy who is anal retentive on occasion is no walk in the park.
Being a fishing guide is tough, being a rafting guide is tougher.
