Fishing help please.

Would anyone happen to know what the closest place to Idaho Springs is that has eatable size fish, somewhere that someone with very limited experience and gear wont get too frustrated. And if anyone could suggest what bait etc. for such a place.

What I have now.

Cheap spinning rod and reel with a couple small mepps aglias and other hardware.
Cheap spin cast rod and a couple float things and weights and some red salmon egg things.

Any help is very appreciated as I have been fishing for about 3 days total.

If spin fishing for trout get some size 4 Panther martin's. (silver blade, yellow body)

Meh. My buddy swears by those but all I use is Mepps aglia 0 and 1. Many a trout have made their way into my frying pan with that setup.

1. Drive up to Georgetown Lake. 2. Put a sliding 3/4 sinker on your line followed by a swivel. 3. Tie a 1 foot leader onto the other end of the swivel and a hook (or even just attach one of those pre-made leader-hook combos on). 4. Put a chunk of power-bait on the hook and chuck it out as far as you can. 5. Set you rod down with a tight line. 6. Open beer. 7. Catch fish. 8. Eat fish. Easy as 12345678

lately we've been stacking them with some blaze orange garlic flavored marshmellows and/or some powerbait.

Mepps simply do not have enough weight to get the lure down when the water is running fast. The Pather Martins do this especially well when you are casting into tight spots or along a deep cut bank where the big dogs are:fmicon:

Thank you, that was amazing and just what I was looking for. One last question, no bobber? If so, where would I attach it?

Wouldn't two spinners of the same weight sink the same, or are there more factors involved?

Just replace that single with a treble for powerbait or you can do the dualfecta, get a wormthreader and thread a half worm on that set up, then make a dime size ball of bait with Pwrbait and place it on the line above the worm. Cast, tighten line, open beer, quickly set beer down, do not spill beer, reel in fish, repeat. The only shitty thing about this rig is that you will only get 1 or 2 beers down before you get a limit.

Different profiles and blade designs effect their descent, as well as line size.

Rig looks good. No bobber. Adjust the leader length if it isn't producing. The idea with that rig is the sinker will keep it on the bottom and with enough power bait, it will float right in range of where the fish are hanging out. Keeping your line tight is important to see the strikes and keeping the bait low.

Generally, you'll get bigger fish deeper. Action isn't usually fast unless you get a good spot or have good timing. But for trout, thats usually a sure fire method of catching some. You can also get sucker meat at a sporting goods store and rig that up for even bigger fish. Better yet, find a lake with Macks and use the sucker meat.

And whats wrong with having a few beers before you get a limit. Thats not necessarily a bad thing. ;)

Tried again today, was in such a hurry to get the line setup last night that I forgot I only had about 15 yards of line after a bird nest. Go me. I will get it eventually.

Another thing: you can run a couple of hooks on the same line eg:

Weight-swivel-----hook-------------hook

Or

Swivel--hook-------------hook---weight

well, this time had enough line but I couldn't for the life of me to get the powerbait to float. Yes, it does say it is the floating variety.

I almost got it figured out, getting bites now but no hooks yet. Not had lots of time this week.
