Did it in 2001. Fall is the best time. No bugs, kids are in school so its less crowded. Took 30 days and would do it in 30 days again with different side trips.

Did it way back in, oh, 1990 or somthing, at the end of June. I think I turned14 on the hike. A simply awesome trip. We took 3 weeks and the snow wasn't too bad. We basically carried enough food for a week, then had people brings us food from Roads End, in Kings Canyon, and met someone at Lake Edison.
Good times, for sure. I think I did the whole thing in some Converse high-top basketball shoes and never got a single blister. Go figure.

We will likely have only a 2 week widow, so I'm thinking we may skip the Yosemite valley (where I've been many times) and start at Tuolomne Meadows. This takes it down to just under 200 miles. With 15 days, it's just over 13 per on average.

I've done the Evolution Valley section. It was utterly stunning.
I hiked Mt. Whitney in Chucks. They're very comfortable shoes and actually stick to rocks quite well. They just suck in mud or loose dirt because they have so little tread.Quote:
