Im a total surfing jong, but Im hooked on it when im at the beach. I can get up and ride small waves on a longboard. Ive surfed kauai's south shore in the summer and some small breaks in san diego. Im headed to cancun for a week and i would like to know where to rent a good board and somewhere i might be able to find good waves for a beginner looking to get better without fucking myself up on a family vaca.

Also they will bring the Surfboard directly to your hotel, and pick it when you are done.
As far as finding a good wave, check out Playa Chaac Mool it in the Heart of the hotel zone in Cancun (behind Coco Bongo nite club)

Unless there is a tropical depression near cancun - playa del carmen I have found the waves in the Caribbean small and unrideable. I have 6 Playa del Carmen trips under my belt and surfed pre and post Hurrican Wilma in 2005 only.
Playa del Carmen is a more fikkle wave I'd almost say it doesnt realy have surf. Cancuns waves are fun. Its not the best quality wave or big. Its perfect for learning. Ive lived here for 11 years and if you have a longboard you can surf 300 days a year. Conclusion Cancun great for beginners and fun for amateurs.

Its hit or miss there not that much as far as waves go. and if you do get to surf....fall shallow jajaj. All the talk the place is fun to surf and a great place to chill.
Your best bet is grab the Ultramar boat to the hotel zone and grab some waves here.....its super close.

Aloha, there is plenty of surf in Cancun. mostly in front of the parasail and 360 surf school flags on Chac mool beach or on the sand bar in front of Villas Marlin. Also Playa Delfines. Cancun is for mostly longboards though I have seen some pretty big Surf Roll through. As for surf shops Koko Dogz in the centro is the best and if it for renting boards go to http://www.surfingcancun.com.mx/#!rentals.
any good restaurants in the hotel zone that are a must hit? heading there next week. seafood, ethnic.
