Where to find South Swell in Baja Norte?

My wife and I have a few days off together next week and we are thinking of heading to Baja for some camping. Ideally, we will be camping surf side, but what spots pick up a south in the Norte?

I had heard we would need to be south of Ensenada, but I just watched a YT vid of K38 with a 'late season south'. I have not been south of the border for years, and remember very little. I searched and came up empty.

Any beta of S swell spots, beach side camping and fun things to do with the wife between the border and San Quentin would be much appreciated.

Its been a couple years since I was down in Baja, and i am still a bit of a Barney (50 SD) so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I want to say that shipwrecks (ie. freighters) is SW sand break and a real cool site. Its 2-3 hours south of Ensenada. just N? of there is Quatro Casa, a Rock-reef that is out on a large punta with a S aspect .
coyote Cals is a Hostel/camp spot in Erinderia good 4 shower and a little civilization but can be too busy on weekends with So-cal Dirt bike types. there is good surfing nearby, river mouth SW, long beach WSW, half moon S as well as good camping.

Just drive along that, dusty, washboard ridden dirt road on the coast and u will salivate at all the untouched break. U wont even have 2 take off your wetsuit as u drive between newly discovered spots, tecate in hand.
Speaking of wetsuits.... water is fackin' cold down there, (10 cooler then San Diego). lots of rock coral and kelp, u may want booties for some locals

I've been down twice and both times were mind blowing.
Speaking of mind blowing... u can drive into Mexico easy with buds, etc. U can drive S easy, but don't drive N on the main road (there is only one) with anything, as all federalies roadblocks are N bound.

When we were 14, my buddy and I took his dad's truck to Calafia and thus started a love affair with Baja that lasted nearly two decades. I don't go down anymore because it is too fucking sketchy. The policia locked up the heads of the main drug cartels and their thug henchmen were left to run things. As a result, violence has dramatically escalated and the place has become largely lawless. You could always expect to be hassled down there and you always needed to budget bribe money, but things have gotten completely out of control. I say look elsewhere.

baja norte has tons of good south swell spots. depends where you wanna go.

1st thing - DONT GO TO TJ! just keep driving right past that lovely little border town. so once you get past rosasrito between there and ensenada are a handful of nice spots. this area is very californicated though and if you are looking for the real baja well it doesnt begin till well after san quentin IMHO. so in that region yes you got k38's no camping there but some spots around advertise camping and those spots are not bad places, secure, although i never camp there. k38's is a great right point reef but gets crowded on weekends. north of there - where you park for k38 - is taco surf, or martas or whatever the name is that week. its also a nice right reef/point. then south of there is k55 and la fonda. la fonda is a decent beachbreak on a good tide and swell it is just as good as anywhere, but it also gets kinda crowded. OK camping right on the cliffs there. its kind of overrun. south of there (just before ensenada) is san miguel. decent spot but needs solid swell to be good and also crowded. there are tons of other little spots in between all of these that are very easy to get to and mostly OK to good, not too crowded spots.

south of ensenada it gets much better and maybe a little more interesting to find surf spots. there are a ton out there and the easiest ones to reach have been mentioned above. if you can find it get "the surfers guide to baja" http://www.surfingtravel.com/baja.html
i have seen it at most surf shops. this is a great book with many common spots described.

I heard sulsipuadis (N of Encinada 10k) is now a condo development. that sux that was a great spot.

We Also saw 4 UFOs there, no shit. 4 Hoovering goldish orbs lined up diagonally for a minute ,then gone. Reports are lots of UFOs down there between '04-'05, with a couple legit video accounts, exact same kind. ...Let flaming and kook calls begin:rolleyes2
....my GF hates when i tell people that story, she will be Sooo pissed I told the whole interweb:the_finge

As far as safety, I have heard it been getting bad, (can't be any worst then Alien anal probes:biggrin:) but I'd bet once u get past encinada a couple hours and get on the coast u will be fine. only fisherman, and ranchers out there.

I wouldnt go, I have been reading all kinds of fucked up shit going on with the the policia and the cartels in Baja Norte, mostly involving surfers (ie, shakedowns, robberies, rape, etc...)
