My temptress

The San Juans seem to be calling to me.

Pictures of Couloirs Have been haunting me with every new ski magazine I pick up.

Dropping, dropping, dropping through waist high powder, never showing you all of her secrets. No, these lines always curve out of sight. What are you hiding? Aprons to catch my climactic return from the heights, or doglegs of granite destined to slow my descent.

These pictures are not the steep, ice riddled couloirs that make your mouth drop with "how did they do that" wonder, but snowy beckoning couloirs that tease you into serenity before slapping you back into reality.

The cover of BackCounty skier magazine that I just picked up is in on this torture. The caption never reveals more than "San Juans, Colorado” Is this the stuff of Silverton Legend?? Or more in the way of double secret valley and hidden skin tracks lore?

Regardless of the exact location of my temptress, I know I will find her. It may not be the same chute, range or even state, but I will feel the cold loving embrace of her towering rock walls, her pillows of powder and and and....

Oh God, How will I make it to winter?

It has hit. Snow fever. The not knowing when it will start is almost as bad as sitting in the throes of summer. Will I be skiing next week, or next month? Will my first turns lead me to Main chute on baldy, or Frozens chute, known in the summer as the stairs off my deck?

Regardless, this winter I will play with my temptress. I long for couloirs.

Frozen? Ski COLORADO???
