What's in your camelbak?
maybe this topic's already been done...but i've done a lot of experimenting w/ this over the past couple years.
in a 100 oz camelbak -- 32 oz of gatorade/powerade (strawberry ice gatorade or arctic blast powerade are my favs for it); an 8 oz'er of redbull; top it off w/ water.
tastes damned good... i've found straight gatorade/powerade is too thick....straight water doesn't seem to sate. the redbull is a nice little kick...even if it's only psychological (it's pretty diluted).

100oz of Johnnie Walker(Red, due to budget considerations):D

I used to use Gatorade a lot until I looked in the baldder. All that sugar really gets things growing in there. Keep'r clean.
-
50 oz's of water. If find if I use gatorade then I just have to wash the thing everytime I wanna use it...which is a pain in the ass. Plus, water is practically free. Red Bull is $$$.

Unfortunately the foul taste of iodine tablets. Shit tastes like an electrical fire. Even flushing with mouthwash doesnt kill it.
-
orange Revenge sports drink. alot thinner than full strength gatorade, and it actually seems to make a difference on long rides.

Just water. Being a sporty couple, my lady friend and I have about 5 camelbak bladders around the house and they all get cleaned exactly once a year.
For a longer ride, I'll bring some watered down gatorade or Accelerade (good shit) in a water bottle to start drinking 30 minutes into the ride.

water in the camelbak with some drops of peppermint oil. You guys should try this, no more shitty plastic taste, it's awesome. you can buy it at an natural / health sort of store.
if it's a big ride i'll put a water bottle of powdered gatorade on my bike to drink here and there, orange is the best.

After attempting to clean Mr.AG's camelbak after he put gatorade in it, I will never ever put anything other than water in mine. There's enough bike maintenance and cleaning to do as it is, I'm not adding scrubbing out camelbak bladders after every ride...
I carry a gel flask with homemade gel in it (clif shots were getting expensive). 3 parts honey, one part molasses and salt.

Water?
I think water is the best for all the reasons mainly mentioned above. A few times I have thrown a bloddy mary or a screwdriver in there, but it is a pain to clean later, so I aint done that in a few years. Water and a few cliff shots used to be my medicine on the trail, but times are tough, and not getting the free shots from being sponsored can become pricey. I might try the honey and malasses mixture, that sounds good. Other than that, H2O will work just fine.

50/50 Water/LemonLime Gatorade. Sometimes I kick it up and add some Go Fast (like Red Bull, but tastes better).
To keep crap from growing in my Camelback, I just toss it in the freezer when I get home. Haven't had anything growing in there since I started doing that.

Sometimes I'll throw a 12 oz bottle of poweraid or gatorade in with the water.
The best is when you put a sports drink in the bladder, drink half and leave the camelback sitting for a week. Then before your next ride, you just top it off like normal and on the trail you take a drink and almost puke from the shit that's growning in it. The best part is the fact that you're waterless for the rest of the ride.
Also, I know I've said it before, but Efferdent tablets take all the work out of cleaning a bladder. Hot water + 4 tablets = sparkling clean bladder.

I've always gone with straight water until this year, when a friend introduced me to Cytomax. Being a skeptic of things of this nature, I was reluctant to try it. But one scoop to my 80 oz of water makes a huge difference. I feel like I can ride longer, not faster, and the cytomax makes the water easier to drink. I highly recommend Fruit Punch flavor. Give it a shot....you might be surprised.

sounds like 'just water' is pretty popular, however, if you go out for long all day rides at altitude, in the sun, you gotta make sure you get electrolytes primarily sodium from somewhere. it can be anything from cheez-it's to some sort of energy bar, but hyponatremia is becoming a bigger problem as people push the limits of endurance. we admitted a guy this weekend who hiked all day and drank nothing but water, came in with a lo sodium and seizing.
