I'm heading up to Desolation Sound the second week of August and need a few tips on fishing that there salty water. We'll be daysailing out of Lund with a few overnight stays in various coves. What should I be fishing for and how? I'll be bringing a 7.5 foot casting boat rod and a single action reel. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.
No info for ya, but that sounds like an awesome trip!
Casting a small pink zinger or buzz bomb of the beach or around kelp beds from the boat for Pink or Coho Salmon might work well that time of year.Try around creek or river mouths and you might pick up some sea-run Cutthroat as well.
Bouncing a jig of the bottom,a Point Wilson Dart works well,in deeper water around underwater nobs might get you Ling cod , Spring Salmon or other tasty bottom fish.The south end of Cortes Island inside Twin Islands is a good spot and very good Prawn fishing as well if you've got traps.
All the major anchorages like Prudea Haven,Roscoe bay and Tenodos arm(probly all spelt wrong) have lakes just a short walk away that should all be stocked with Cutthroat trout.
So many beautiful spots around there you probably wont even think of fishing.
Manson's landing on Cortes Island is a favorite of mine with white sand beaches and a short hike to Haig lake with another really nice white sand beach.
Castle Falls at Tenodos arm is another must see.Sounds like a great time,inspires me to get out in the boat this week:D:D

Thanks Vanisle, that's great info. You're probably right about the amount of time I'll want to fish but I'll bring some stuff along just in case.
We leave Aug. 7 - I can hardly wait.
L7 - I gotta believe it's longshot to find a left and a right in the right size so I won't be picking up any shoes I see ...
