E. Gallatin Lunch Break
Seems like it's the time of year for the best kind of lunch break. Like G. Gordon Liddy's Sun Valley fun, I slipped out yesterday for some time on the E. Gallatin. After getting skunked the last 2 times on the Lower Madison, it was great to get into some fish (not to mention the gorgeous weather).
Without question, there are lots of fish in there right now. First one was on a prince nymph off of a rubber legs, and the second was on an olive zonker (I love streamers).

Wish I had that river out my back door right now!

here's a couple i caught out my back door. it's a tributary to the east gally. actually just got in, caught probably a dozen. mostly little browns like the one in the pic, but a couple bows too. they dont get fished hard so they are very willing. not bad for 5 blocks from downtown bozeman. i keep a little 2 wt strung up next to the door for whenever the urge hits.

had a really odd experience tonight too. caught a nice little brown, had him in the net and was having trouble getting the hook out of his lip, guess i forgot to pinch the barb. finally got him free, flipped the fly into the water and started reviving the fish. heard a little splash, looked over and a little 5 incher had taken the fly and was heading downstream. so rod under my arm, fish in one hand, and a little guy pulling slack line out. pretty funny. well to me anyways.
