We went up to Rhode Island to visit family for the 4th and stayed at my father's house in Wickford harbor. I snuck out a few evenings to check out the action outside the harbor and was not disappointed.
Menhaden in pods all over the bay the first night and maybe one other boat in sight. Simply turn off the engine and listen to find the fish.
The second evening was simply insane. It was as if all the pods of bait were slowly corralled into one group which was then pushed up against the breakwater jetty. This turned into an acre of destruction with bluefish and bass tearing into the giant pod almost non-stop for 40min.
That second night we were in a 13 foot whaler drifting through the whole scene. It was dead calm so we basically weren't even moving. This also means that anything rippling within 200 yards was bait. I've never seen anything like it.
There's a ton more blitz related clips that will be going into a 2008 salt water video for the late fall.
I LOVE RHODE ISLAND!

Noice!!!. I LOVE Strippers. What did you catch them on: worms, bunker or clam?

The stripers were caught on live lined menhaden. Snag...hope bluefish doesn't destroy...switch to rig with circle hook in mouth and 3oz sinker to get below said bluefish...voila!
The blues destroyed everything in time. All snagging hooks gone. All leaders cut. All snagged menhaden bloody carcasses by the time they reached the boat. All we could do was watch the carnage for the last 10 minutes...

That looks absolutely legendary! Man am I jealous... both of those videos were awesome. I would shit my pants seeing the water blow up like that! Thanks for sharing the stoke.
