Through a stroke of great luck I've acquired a very nice Thule box for free.
For a variety of reasons I would prefer to roll with yakima bars, is there any reason I couldn't mount the Thule box on a yakima bar (obviously I couldn't use the Thule bar attachment)?
Not a problem, my Thule boxes fit fine on Yakama bars
yeah, most all of their attachments are interchangeable (I have a yakima box on my thule bars).

OMG I did that. No it was the other way around. But it worked out fine. In fact I have 2 Thule boxes and a set of Thule Stackers on a set of Yakama bars and I'm still not burning in hell.
You'll be fine. We ran with Yakima stackers on Thule Bars for a long time. I came across some of the Thule ones though (the "u" shaped ones) on the cheap, so that is what we have now which seem to be a bit more rugged for what its worth.Quote:

Since they only have one point of contact w/ the crossbar (at least the old ones did), the Yakima stackers tend to bend easily in the direction in which the straps are pulling them. They just always seemed like they would rip off if I pulled the boat straps tight. I am no enginerd, but I'd say its because they lack torsional rigidity. It's almost as if you have a pair of Naxos on your roof crossbars.Quote:

If I had the balls, I'd just throw the boats on the crossbars and strap 'em without any additional attachment. At least thats how the cool kids do it.

After re-reading the above posts, I'm led to believe that maybe the Yakima stackers suck 'cause they lack the ability to avoid total protonic reversal.
YA I got thule stackers so I have no experiance with yakima but the thule DO take up alot of room on the bar
any other after market stacker towers that work better,I seen a single post type all chrome with an eyelet at the top that looked pretty bomber ?
