T&C surftechs on Whiskeymilitia for $375

They had about 12 of each last night for $375 (retail ~$700):

6'2 x 18 3/4 x 2 3/8 X3 model
6'4 x 19 x 2 1/2 V2 model
7'4 funboards for kooks and barneys

As much as I hated the 1st gen surftech pool toy feel, I got the 6'2 on impulse. Probably a good backup travel board since they don't ding or snap as easy as normal foam/fiberglass. And I break boards like, for fun, Barney.

They had about 10 of each left when the next steal went up. Keep an eye out if they go on again and you can probably score if you're interested.

Hmmm. I've only ridden the first generation and didn't like those. I concluded it might be fine for a fish or similar short/thick style board where flex characteristics are much less significant.

On a related note, I've been steeped in a moral quandry about whether to buy a $199.00 CostCo china board. It's a standard polyurethane with FCS fins and a Counter Culture logo. It seems that the companies that do this buy failed surf brands and slap their labels on these mass-produced boards (in previous years, it was Pat O'Connel's old brand "The Realm"). The dimensions seem pretty typical (similar to those on the T&C) and the craftsmanship looks decent enough. Before Clark closed, I was getting boards for $275 from a Rusty production shaper and the "Realms" were like $250, so I didn't even consider it. I feel like a traitor to the local shapers I usually use, but the last couple boards I've gotten haven't quite hit the mark and at the current prices of $425+ a pop, I'm kind of sick of experimenting. 200 bucks for "good enough" is getting really appealing.

I'm a big, fat barney. What can I say? I need something to float my thick-ass.

What I'd really like is a 7-6ish Channel Islands M-13. I'm all bout the surftechs too. I'll take durable over "core" any day.

I owned something like that. Doesn't paddle that much better than a shorter shortboard, surfs much shittier. Fish/Egg if you want easy paddling.

My finacee just was thinking about one of those Counter Culture boards from Costco. It was a 9' long board for 300. Considering when I was at CI the other day pricing a Strange longboard for $950, that Costco board didn't seem like that bad of a deal!
