Difference between G4 and G40?

Is there one?

I've been looking for a pair of G4's and all along I thought they looked like this (before they became the AX4)

Now I find a guy who wants to sell me a pair of G40's ( 00-01 ) and they look like this:

Is there a difference between these skis? The guy says "This is the 2nd black and white vertigo version of the ski. same as the 41 and the 4." Does this mean they are the same ski as the G4 in the first picture?

few small changes over the years, but I think that they are all damn close to the same thing. Some might have a slight twin tip or flaired tail, If you liked one you will like other years too.

Same dimensions, construction, only difference was the graphic and the small twin on some years.

Dip, how much are they asking and what size are they? Not trying to cut in, just curious.

178cm, used 20 days, asking $225 w/ tyrolia d9 binders. Seem reasonable?

Little bro and two other friends ski that same model, solid ski, and IMO better than the black ones.
Only diff I can remember is the topsheet is not like the black model G4's, more like a glass layup, but not problamatic.

Definitely worth the coin.

never skied either, but ive heard that the older G40 is preferred for the flex/stiffness.
my first time out west i drooled over them every time i saw them.

careful, the very first run of the g40 was not 118-83-..., but rather 115-80-103

G4 is stiffer, so everyone says

The first batch also had a laminate construction, that was replaced by a caped sidewall. But I have a hard time remebering witch pair of mine had that. the laminate constructiion model was difently better than the latr models. But all of the caped versions still kick ass

Those are the Pancho Villa/ Van Gogh pro model. They rock.

The cap version is indeed the same, except the topsheet doesn't get marked up as fast. The early sandwich version is a little different, but very rare.

Plus with a little Sharpie work you can have the G40 "BRO" model.

I demoed the green G41s and later bought G4s (first year of the G4, with slightly different graphics than those shown above). I didn't notice any real difference between the way they skied, both have a great stable, responsive ride with excellent edge hold. Enjoy the G40 "BRO"!

If anyone is looking for a G40, sandwich construction. I have a pair in a 190cm. that I'm willing to sell. They don't have many days on them, but bases and edges are thin. $150 with or without Marker 9.2 SC bindings.

Summer boredom will now force me to customize mine to now read:

"Volkl 420 Viagra Bro"
