Decided a while back to give shaping a go. Just finished #001 and I'm on to #002, a fish for the summer mush. Later in the summer I hope to build some planks. Thinking a light weight Powder Plusish shape with some rocker would be sick.

Is that one of those "kits" you can make a board yourself or did you make that from scratch? And I'm assuming that is a vent plug on the nose?

Not to get all tech talk on you, but I would love to see construction details. Looks intriguing. How's the veneer to work with (assuming that's veneer)?
It's built up from scratch using 1/16 balsa strips for the deck and 1/8 balsa strips for the rails. I used Home Depot insulation foam which is about 1lb, so yes, that is a vent. It's a Bert Berger inspired sandwich board using 2oz on the inside of the balsa and 4 oz on the outside with some patches. I'm planning to take more pictures of the build of #002 and will post them up. I found almost all of the info to build it on Swaylocks.
Thanks for the props... it took me forever to build. 002 should be much easier.

I wasn't really sure what you were doing, then I read the blog on the Swaylocks link. I've done a few boards the conventional way (i.e. cut and shape the blank, lay glass, coat with resin, sand like crazy) and this looks far better - time wise, quality wise, environment wise, health wise...you name it. I love the solid wood look of your board too. Last step is to glass the board - am I right? You'd have to do something like that - Balsa has all the water shedding properties of a sponge. So many questions I don't even know where to start. Did you follow all the same steps as Bert did? Needless to say I'm inspired to finally turn that spare room in my garage into a shaping bay like I'd always planned.

yeah, thanks for the swaylock site.I've seen plenny homemade twintip kiteboards but would love to build (or have built) a beefed up version of that board for jumping with the kite in waves.Quote:
