Bindings for Katana's

I've been a Marker fan for 30+ years, but I'm not seeing much information about how they preform on the new wide body skis. I'm skiing on some 177 2006 Mantra's with Marker Free 12's (set at 10) with no issues. I've got a pair of 183 Katana's on the way, and I was hoping to get some feedback on what bindings to use. I'm thinking about the Marker Free 14's, but I was hoping for some feedback from the tgr family.

Not a lot of love for Markers here that are not Jesters or Dukes, but if you've had good luck with them in the past and don't feel like they pre-release go for the Free 14's. I have some Comp 1800's on my Sumos and have been pleasantly surprised at how capable they are.

I have S916's on my Katanas and like the feel, although they add some extra weight.

Been skiing Markers for the last 8 or so years almost exclusively on Volkl. I've had great luck with the 18.0, 16.0 eps and the 14.0 frees. They all do well, no problems with prereleasing. This year I went with some Jesters and again no issues. Since you're going to be putting them on such a wide ski, if you can go with that din range I'd recomend them. They're designed to have a wider footprint/ better leverage with the wider skis. I can't say as it's noticeable, but seems to work well. The only reason I just put a pair of 16eps' on my Mantra I just bought, was I wanted to be a little lower on the ski. The only drawback of the dukes and jesters is how stacked you are off the ski.... loosing just a little feel underfoot.

One word....Jesters. I have them on two pairs of skis currently with no problems of anykind and will be going on my new pairs of skis. As long as foward pressure is set correctly, you won't have an issue. And they are LIGHT for a 16din binding.

Honestly, they are bindings. Get something that will help keep your skis safely fastened to your boot.

I'm running Jesters on my Blowers, no complaints at all. Very solid connection to the ski and they're silly light.

Incoming cannon fodder... But what has Jesters got to do with touring? And a wider binding platform do make sense for wider skis.

If this thread was posted 6 or 7 years ago it would have been much more fun....

I love it when retards ask what binding to put on their skis, as if you need a binding specially suited to the ski.

Put whatever bindings you've used before, unless you plan on touring, then with a ski as heavy as the katana, dukes are probably the best choice.

But first you should have shut up and used the search function. The pros and cons of every decent binding have been discussed over and over. We don't need to do it again just for your dumb ass.

And as far as retards go, you had the had the only response in this thread that was actually retarded. Thanks for helping me feel better about myself, and thanks to the rest for the shared opinions!

Actually I'm eating a pb/honey/bacon/chocolate chip sandwich for breakfast and its quit tasty. Thank you for you concern.

But bindings have been discussed here plenty. There is no need for another useless thread. If you would be a bit less lazy and entitled, and use the search function, you'd find all the info you could possibly want. Starting a bullshit thread like this just makes it harder for everyone else to search for that same information.

Delete this thread, and use the search function. The world does not revolve around you.

EDIT: To say that I might be more understanding if you actually contributed something to this community before you ask us to do your research for you, but you haven't so there you go.

Right.

Man, somebody should make a thread that compiles this kind of stuff. They should name it something like "recommended skis and bindings" or something. That thread should definitely be a sticky.

They should invent something that lets you look for things that surely have been discussed before, because you know "thinksnow" hasn't had any original thoughts or questions lately. Like, a machine that goes through volumes and volumes of text and finds certain keywords that you specify. That'd be rad. I have an idea for a catchy name for it, too -- Looker Motor. The biometric toe blows goats in my opinion. They work great until you put lateral pressure on the toe and because of the limited travel (~10mm) required to release your suddenly eating snow. It's the marker trademark - click, whomp,whomp,whomp as I like to call it and yes I've skied them a fair amount. Give me some additional travel and I'll use markers again. The Blizzard binding with the Geze toe and marker heel has treated me fairly well and it's branded by Marker so.........

All right I get it...I am an assumed newbe to skiing...fyi...10 years in a shop -- 1987 --1997 (worked for Salomon as a tech rep for 2 years,) but this was allbeit 10 years ago. Things have changed, so I thought I would ask fellow riders of snow for some updated information. -- I may be new to the TGR forum's (missed the search feature --I bow my head in sincere appology).

I thought I'd try to get some educated information to support Marker's bad rap. As for the threads on Marker's -- everyone says they just plain suck without any technological information as to why. I did look at the "stickie for ski and binding, but there was nothing about Marker's.

...And isn't a community forum about "tech talk" the correct place to ask for help on research? You all did take the time to respond to this post...rather than bash a "TGR newbe" or the post just answer the fu@#ing question.

You may presume me to be an idiot, but I do recognize that the only thing a fat ski needs is wider bindings and blower days. I merely mentioned what skis I was getting because I'm looking forward to skiing a 111 waist vs. a 94 in the next blower day! Sheesh...you all need to get out and ski some more...hopefully on some Markers!

Jesters...no doubt....no brainer....i think they are the best alpine bindings on the market...and great for wide skis

Jester's if you have to have Markers...

I have some Rossi Axial2 Free on my 190 Katana's, and that binding handles them NO problem (granted, it is SOLID metal and weighs 8 lbs, but I digress...)

I have some Marker Dukes on my Line Prophet 130's, and I swear they handle better with that binding them my old Salomon 914's I had on them...so maybe the new Marker's actually do perform better on wide skis. I tend to believe so.
