Why don't weed smokers use the same kind of pipes as traditional pipe smokers?
Real pipes look great. Weed pipes always look like...well, kind of lame.

you think hookahs (traditional tobacco pipes fyi) look lame?
otherwise, the answer is that smoking dope requires a greater amount of airflow than a regular pipe will provide.
LB = one time dope smoker, off and on pipe smoker.

we will also use apples, carrots, cans, snow, bark, bare hands, milk jugs...................
this is just a guess, but...
when smoking marijuana, one typically draws a big ol deep inhale of the illegal substance, while traditional pipe smokers swish it around in their mouths without taking the smoke deep into their lungs to experience the “high”. so a cleaner "hit" through a glass pipe is preferable over roasting the edges of your traditional tomacco pipe. furthermore, the resins building up from constant use requires frequent cleaning. therefore, a easy-to-clean glass pipe, preferably made by snodgrass, is what most weed smokers of style and means use.

You can modify many traditional pipes to smoke weed if you're into stealth.
Remove any filters, bore out stem (needs to be a straight, thick stem), insert screen. You could even machine a steel bowl liner if you're a real smart guy.
I strongly recommend against smoking using anything with aluminum.
Blown glass pipes can be works of art, and it's amazing to see a nice one being made. Not lame to me.
I suggest an agitated asbestos lining for durability.

Yeah I haven't tried any of the ceramic "heat transfer" vaporizing pipes, but it'd be interesting to give a shot...
I would probably use the stuff if you didn't have to smoke it.

I could see how heavy snow would work. Certainly wouldn't be easy, but cold water makes a bong hit smoother so I wonder how smooth that would be?
Plus when you smoke out of a weed pipe you can be like "yeah, bra" without saying shit.
My friend has one that's more like a tube. Much smaller than the one in the vid. Placed in a backpack with the hose wrapped around and it looks like you are using a camelback.
