Can boots cause knee problems? I ask because in the last couple of weeks both knees have bothered me only on the hill. I've been playing basketball and done some other activities and they don't bother the knees. Its just when I ski. I wasn't sure if the tilt of the boot or something else can cause these types of problems.

In my 13 years I've never had any problems skiing. I've never had any problems with my knees other than what has happened recently. I'm very active and am NOT planning on getting "out of the game". I'm just curious if the newer boots are to blame or if I some how managed to tweek both knees.
Skiing is the only sport that the foot wear has such a dramatic influence on ones personal biomechanics. A boot change could easily cause knee issues. Get thee to a good alignment guru, of which there are few.
did you get your boots properly fit (aligned, canted, etc.)? If something is way off it could cause knee strain
No I didn't get them fit. I was going to but didn't have the money. I've been thinking about getting footbeds but might consider getting some new boots fitted if I can finds some good end-of-the year deals.
My bootfitter fixed my need pain by grinding down the sole of my boots at a slight angle. I think it's called a stance alignment.
So I guess back when I was wearing poor quality running shoes it was my impersonal biomechanics that was affected.Quote:

have someone check your alignment. if there are not major issues, a six pack could turn some screws and change your cant a little bit... and at least let you know if you need anything else done.
also, it could be your regular footwear- if you are playing basketball etc, and you are not balanced right, overpronating etc. your knees will feel it and then being brought into a different alignment than how you walk will accentuate it.
spend the money to get things fixed and figured out now while you are still active and you will not only save money in the long run, but stay active longer. whether this means footbeds for your boots, tweaking your boots, or orthotics for your shoes and seeing a podiatrist, do what you got to do to keep going/ stay balanced.
