jesus christ that's massive. So this has never happened before in ski jumping or what? The guy got "lucky" and hit the jump strangely? I just don't get how they do their jumping in a way that the dude can pancake into the flats like that.
If it's just technology and technique, then I guess they are going to have to dial back the in-runs to reduce the takeoff speed. Either that or rebuild every ski jump facility in the world so these guys can carry 10 seconds of hangtime without going splat.
Thats crazy. It looked like he was about to touch down, then the wind caught him or something, and he lifted back up. Sucks he cleared most of the tranny, but it would have been a lot worse had he cleared just a bit more.

no expert but I beleive it is scored on a combination of form in the air, form on landing, but mostly on the distance aspect of it

If I recall correctly, if someone like this guy goes too big in a round of jumping, they cancel the round and start over from a spot lower on the in-run to reduce speed at take-off.

wow! I did some searching and found that the longest jump ever was at that same ski flying hill in Planica, Slovenia. 239 meters, just one less...and the guy landed it
