I'm sure a lot of you have seen the Billabong XXL stuff (I think there was a post a little while ago about it) Just wanted to bring in the summer stoke. I know I'll be stoked to ride a wave 1/1000000000th this size.

When I worked at Alpine Meadows, CA I met Victor Lopez, the legendary Jerry Lopez's brother. I asked him how he liked his Burton Step-Ins and we got to talking. I took him to the top of the Mountain and he was blown away.
He was like, "I'm a kook bro, this is to much!"
So I guided him down and we became friends over the rest of the season. He invited me to come toe-in surfing....
I said, "Whatevas Bradda, No way...
I'm a kook!"
I can only imagine how insane that is....

Seriously, those size waves are just insane. People who ride those beasts are wired completely differently. Not much room for error there - you fall and if the waves doesn't crush you the reef might just tear you to bits.
When I go hiking up at Mavericks and I see a guy or two in their wetsuit at the parking lot, I feel like I should ask for their autographs. Can't imagine having the guts to get out there.
I have a co-worker who lives close enough to Mavericks that he can FEEL the waves on a big day.
I agree about the folks who decide to drop into stuff like that. The biggest I've ever been in was 9-10 feet and I was WAY out of my element. I managed to get up on a few that were probably in the 7-8 foot range, but I decided to call it a day when I saw a wave snap a guy's board in half. I've never seen that in person and decided that was a sign for me to exit stage left.
I couldn't even imagine 50-60 footers, much less a 100+ footer like my photoshopped pic.
Anyone know what the largest wave ridden to date is?
How about the largest non-tow in wave ridden to date?

If I had to guess (I resisted googling this) I would say.....
biggest wave ever ridden - 65 feet
Biggest non tow in - 40 feet.
I'll never forgive myself for not walking out to Mavericks on 100 foot Wednesday. I figured they'd be big that day, but kicked myself when I saw on the front page of the Chron "100 foot waves blah blah blah". What a dumbass.
