Vytorin = teh suck?
I am a high-risk cholesterol dude. Runs in both my families, heart surgeries everywhere. my diet sucked for many years, now its more moderated, but not anal. Bacon = 1 serving a week allowed. :fmicon:
I went on vytorin cuz the doc said the zetia element would attack the cholesterol my body makes better than other statins. true enough, my cholesterol and LDL levels sank to around 150. I only take it 3-4 days a week.
I had an IMT last year that was the worst test I've had so far. Gave me an cartoid artery "age" of 60. I'm 32. Also have shitty homocystein levels.
Seems that the study yesterday said zetia had no effect on IMT.
Am I fucked? Anyone else on this stuff or know about it?
I have vytorin left, I take it with baby aspirin and also take B6, B12 and omega3 pillz. plus plenty of head nugs.

I'm not a pharmacist, but there are theories out there that much of the cause of CV disease is related to inflammation(one indicator is elevated homocystein levels.) Interestingly some cholesterol lower agents as a "side effect" actually lower homocystien levels. Aspirin also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Poor oral hygeine also leads to chonic inflammation that seems to have systemic effect according to some studies.
Find a doc your comfortable with and I would have a tendency to stay away from any med that hasn't been on th market long enough to prove its long term safety(thats just me though).
Talk to a pharmacist. They have huge amounts of knowledge. More so than docs as far as the latest studies and proven therapies.
Not really an answer but a little more to work with.
Good luck
