LCC Lodging Recommendations for family

My wife and I are looking to take our 2 y.o son with us this year on a trip to UT. There are plenty of options in PC, but we prefer Alta/Bird. Our problem is we need lodging where we can put our son to sleep in a separate room - so hotel style rooms are a no go. I'm thinking we need a 1 BR condo at the least. It seems like most of the available offerings in Little Cottonwood Canyon are either single rooms or large units and homes.

Snowbird Central Reservations didn't have anything for us for the time we're looking to go (last week of Feb).

I'd stay in the valley, but my wife prefers to stay up-canyon.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It ain't cheap to stay in the canyon.

If $$ is not an issue, go with Alta's rustler lodge, or The Cliff lodge. The Cliff @ the Bird is the priciest option, but nicer/ more stuff to do and more kid friendly. Alta's lodging is a little more homey ( besides the rustler) but I really don't ever remember toddlers/infants running around.

If you are looking to save some $$$ look at the Iron Blossom ( bird), or the Alta Lodge and Peruvian lodge up in Alta. I don't remember any Alta lodge offering day care, but the emps are (can be) awesome up there towards little ones. I'm sure you could pay an employee for day care up in Alta. Snowbird may offer daycare, not 100% on that thought.

Also.. there are several hotels w/in a 10 min drive to the canyon; ranging from shit hole to pretty nice. IMO, staying in the valley is like going on a vacation in the suburbs. Not jack shit to do. It's stressful driving up and down the canyon, finding parking, ect. It costs much more to stay in the canyon, but that would feel like a true vacation. For someone that has never been to LCC( not sure if that's you) it's incredible up there. Staying in the valley you would save mega coin, but I'm pretty sure you would be disappointed. Way more relaxing to stay in the canyon. Especially if you don't know your way around/ what you are doing.

Solitude might be more your pace with the little guy.

The GMD at Alta definitely has lots of families that all have a blast. It'll be cheaper then the Russ as well! Last winter there was a girl who did daycare everyday. She'd take care of the kids all day while parents went skiing (if the kids can't ski), then the adults could eat the nice dinner that's included with your rate and she would take the kids off to give them a special, more kid friendly dinner with the other kids. They would play games, goof off, and generally be kids. I heard nothing but good comments about her care. Not sure if its the same girl this year (dammit, I can't remember her name...), but I'm sure they'll have someone!!!

I knew I forgot one. GMD= best value in the canyon. Good choice for the kid too.

The bird does have official daycare for the non ski younguns, but it is $$$.

Yeah, I tried them. The smallest they have available is a 3BR. I'm not that concerned about the cost, but wasting the money on the extra space is just not practical.

I think BCC may be an option as well.

I looked at the Rustler lodge - it was my impression that they only have hotel style rooms. My son won't go to sleep if we're in the same room as him, hence the need for accommodations with a separate room (i.e. 1 BR condo).

I've done both the valley and canyon lodging. You're in agreement with my wife about staying in the valley - she doesn't see it as a vacation then.

In the past I have rented rooms from the owners of timeshares at the cliff lodge. it was possible to rent between 1 to 3 bedrooms.

Any contact info or websites that you have would be appreciated. I tried vrbo.com, but nothing for our time.

Right now, I'm looking at renting a 1 BR blackjack condo, but still considering other options.

I'll probably post this in a separate thread, but anyone have any info on Solitude day care (for the 2 year old)?
