thinking of going back to a one-ski quiver....any suggestions?

so currently i own line SFB's and this year's 190 gotamas (and 180 MSP's as my rock skis). i've never really had anything resembling a quiver before this season, and at the same time i'm kind of in need of some cash due to my insurance not covering all of the treatment i'm getting for a back injury that has (hopefully just temporarily) brought my season to a halt.

i'm 27 6'2" 180 and i'm decent (skied my whole life) but my thighs aren't tree trunks and i don't have iron testicles (plus i've learned that after 8 or 9 broken bones, some surgeries, and now my back, that i might be sort of fragile:nonono2:) . the 03/04 180 MSP was my only ski for three seasons (couldn't ride last season) and i was pretty happy with it in almost all conditions except for real deep days. it was the first 90+ ski i owned, but each season afterwards i desired a fatter and fatter ski

so finally, after working 70 hours a week for the entirety of the 06/07 season, i got the bacons (for riding with my boarder friends), and the gotamas (for when i want to do actual skiing), but after riding them both a few times the got is a better ski in almost all conditions. sure if i'm skiing low-pitch-total-freshies-switch all day and just dicking around the bacons are sweet but the gotama is better in every other condition. If i kept the bacons they would only be brought out on days like sledding Buff Pass or powder mornings at vail on a weekday (all fresh no pitch).

problem with the gotama is i mounted them alot farther back since i never planned on going switch on them, and they aren't that playful considering the length and mount spot, nor are they as fun in the trees as a shorter ski. i'm used to the one-ski quiver, and i think it was just meant to be for me.

sooo.....should i......

A) Sell bacons, remount got's and deal with them in the trees (most economically viable option)

B) Sell both pairs (which would be heartbreaking because the got's are damn sexy) and get 179 stiff Fat Bros (or maybe 183 gotama or something similar/less expensive)

C) Sell bacons, keep got's, get Fat Bros, go to 13th and Speer with a cardboard sign reading, "doctor says i need a backiotomy" so i can pay for physical therapy and chiro.

D) Sell both pairs, quit skiing, get a sex change, and work colfax :fmicon::fmicon::fmicon:

E) Keep both pairs and shut my JONG mouth about this silly "one-ski-quiver" baloney.



right now i'm leaning towards option B (option D hasn't worked so well for me in the past) since that will still leave me with a decent amount of dollars to cover most of my deductible and a ski that is like the MSP but fatter. option A is obviously an easier all around deal resulting in less hassle. Option C sounds great and all but then i wouldn't be able to fix my back and wouldn't be able to ski anyway.

anyone have a second opinion (on my ski situation or my back situation)?

why would you drop two soft buttery skis for a fast stiff ski, seriously I live my skinny not fat stiff bros almost more than life it's self but goats are useless to me due to their soft and floppyness. if you like soft not very responsive skis why are you looking at stiff responsive skis. It would be like me wanting a pair of pocket rockets all of the sodden

bacons are way softer than got's. got's aren't exactly planks but i wouldn't call them noodles either. a little stiffer than MSP's.

and beer makes me create rambling threads with lots of stuff in parentheses (parenthesi?)

Bros are that much stiffer than this years gotamas?

Anyway, strode, just to throw a wrench into the wheel, how about option B with a lifted binding?

Something around 100 underfoot with a 25m radius and a stacked binding would make quite the one-ski-quiver for this jackass.

well with how my back has felt today (worst day so far) it looks like i might be selling both pairs and leaving this decision for a much later date. i'm trying to be positive about this whole situation but it's really tough. i'm 27 and i feel 87. i can't even tie my shoes without laying down on the bed.

but ok it WILL get fixed and i WILL feel better and i WILL be able to ski again, hopefully by february since i bought an aspen classic pass and have been planning a trip there since last year. missing the entirety of last season due to non-back injuries was bad enough, any posy karma points would be great.

so make some offers :(

Sore back, old injuries, testicular softness, one ski quiver? I'd say a pair of 188 soft bros is the answer. I suffer similar physical and mental limitations. I have 179 stiffs and 188 softs. I love 'em both, but the 188s are more versatile and easier on my body.

Don't get too down on the back situation. Five years ago I torched my back right around New Years day. For two months I did nothing but pilates and physical therapy, and spent the rest of my time lying on the floor on a fat Thermarest, reading trashy science fiction and waiting for my wife to come home and tell me about the blower powder day that I'd missed. I got back on skis by the end of the season, and my back hasn't held me back since. Do what you have to do to make it better - it's worth it in the long run.

Gots are not that soft. They're not crazy stiff either. If I had to pick one ski for every thing forever it would be a 190 06 or 07 Got. Just a bit stiffer than the square tails, a touch more sidecut (not too much), and not super fat but still floats.

I could deal on a pair of 183 gotama mounted back for the rest of my life.

Its sick ski and did everything well except charge.

thanks for the pickup suit. if 188 soft bro is your choice then i might as well stick with the got's seeing as they're too similar to trade one for the other.

conundrum makes a good point as well.

gonna keep the got's, bacons will stay for the time being, but may very well be up for sale on here if the dollars get really crunchy - or on ns after the kiddies get their xmas loot :D
