It's not getting any colder

Here in boulder the trees are turning and the leaves are falling, but the tempature hasn't dropped in almost a month now, I know it's supposed to be a warm fall but what's the Rocky's winter prediction like? Cause if it doesn't snow here and Jackson Hole gets blown to bits by Yellowstone like all the crazy people say then what are we supposed to do!!!!!! Sorry, it's been too long since I've seen snow, I'm done now. :rolleyes:

Yeah, this is one year I'm not going to be able to put up with a drought in Colorado. If we end up with three weeks of dry weather, I'm going to be looking at our neighbors ( esp SLC :) ) with the big green eye.

Must open my mind to traveling out of state. It's hard when the mountains around me are so beautiful. But I heard some of those other places had mountains too... ;)

It's a chilly morning here in Seattle.......it's a good thing. :D

It's been cold enough in LA that the last couple of mornings I've seen mist on my windshield driving into work. Also, my wife is starting to wear sweaters. (Of course she starts to get cold once it drops below 85, so that's not saying much).

Little colder here, but it will be back to 70's this weekend

I love road tripping but as a poor college student I can't afford to leave the state very often, I'm hoping taos will have a good year cause it's not too far has very good terrian. Early this morning it was cloudy but now it's 80 something again, I've started riding my bike again :mad:

Give me a minute and i'll post some links....basically yellowstone is a supervolcano that is overdue to errupt according to some people that would theoretically kill everyone within 600miles and cause wyoming to be in total darkness for 2days, also it could put the earth into nuclear winter for 2years cause massive human loss....you know just the small stuff ;)

Sis, I just haven't had time to send you the info on Yellowstone. But here is the scoop. Yellowstone National Park is about to blow off the face of the Earth, and our wonderful leaders are keeping the whole thing squelched.

In July the Park rangers closed the entire Norris Geyser Basin because of the deformation of the land and the excess temperature. There is an area there that is 28 miles long by 7 miles wide that has bulged upward over five inches since 1996, and this year the ground temperature on that bulge has reached over 200 degrees. There was no choice but to close off the whole area. Everything in that area is dying. The trees, flowers, grass, etc. A dead zone is developing and spreading outward. The animals are literally migrating out of the park. This isn't hearsay. It is coming from people who have actually visited the park in just the last few weeks.

Then the last part of July one of the Park geologists discovered a huge bulge at the bottom of Yellowstone Lake. The bulge has already risen over 100 feet from the bottom of the lake, and the water temperature at the surface of the bulge has reached 88 degrees and is still rising. Keep in mind that Yellowstone Lake is a high mountain lake with very cold water temperature. The Lake is now closed to the public. It is filled with dead fish floating everywhere. The same is true of the Yellowstone river and most of the other streams in the Park. Dead and dying fish are filling the water everywhere.

Many of the picnic areas in the Park have been closed and people that are visiting the Park don't stay but a few hours or a day or two and leave. The stench of sulphur is so strong that they literally can't stand the smell.

The irony of all this is that not one word of this is being brought to public attention by the news media or by our government which is supposed to be "protecting" us. But, believe it or not, just last week a British newspaper broke the story about Yellowstone National Park being "a threat to the entire world."

Sis, Yellowstone is what geologists call a "super volcano." There is a massive caldera of molten fire beneath Yellowstone National Park. When this thing blows, geologists are saying that every living thing within six hundred miles is likely to die.

Yet our wonderful news media is not telling the public a thing about this. They are keeping it suppressed so that it won't effect the "economy." To hell with the lives of people, just protect the pocket books of the rich. When this things explodes it will produce an ash cloud that will cover the entire western U.S. clear to the Pacific on the west, British Columbia on the north, the Mexican border on the south, and then out into the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas on the east. And then the clould will blow east because of the prevailing winds, literally covering the entire nation with volcanic ash. And the American people are not even being told that the explosion of this "super volcano" is imminent. There is no question that this thing is going to explode momentarily. The movement of magma has been detected just three-tenths of a mile below the bulging surface of the ground in Yellowstone.

I don't know the name of the paper but I do know the bbc did a show on it not too long ago so you might try a search for yellowstone and the bbc and you'll probably find it there

Wonderful -- extinction level event? I guess that means moving Mexico and skiing there during the nuclear winter is out. Fack.

I didn't check the links but this is the limited information I know:

Yellowstone has erupted throughout history roughly every 700,000 years.
The last time this happened was rougly 700,000 years ago.
We have a 1/100,000 chance of this eruption occuring this year.
What is taking place in Yellowstone right now could mean that an erruption is about to take place.
There are 3 ft ash deposits in Kansas from the last time Yellowstone erupted.
We would be facked.

Don't feel bad...as a poor working stiff I can't afford to road trip much either!

You guys are acting like there's some giant conspiracy to blow Yellowstone up. It's not the like the government built a volcano there and is keeping it a secret. The earth is just that way. That's why they're called natural disasters.

Do you really think it would be wise to evacuate everyone within 600 miles of Yellowstone for an event that may take place momentarily? OK, what if I told that it was an event that was going to take place momentarily on a geological time scale? That means that we could evacuate everyone, and then Yellowstone won't erupt for 10,000 years. That would obviously be a massive waste of resources. I live in California along with millions of other people. We all know that there's a slim chance that THE BIG ONE ® will hit today, but that doesn't stop us from living here (nor does it stop all those other idiots from moving here and clogging up my freeways). Likewise, having Yellowstone blow up is just one of those risks you have to accept when you live on our planet. I'm sure the government would like to lower the risk of an eruption, but there's nothing they can do.

The gov't has nothing to do with it , there is no conspiricy except global warming would no longer be an issue :D global death mabye...but say goodbuy to the facking falls where it is 80 degrees all the time :) From what I've read it blows up every 600,000 years and it has blown up a couple of times, it has been 640,000 since it last erupted. If the earth were a lab then the uncertainty would be much less than (600,000)^(1/2) which is around 700 and something years, aka way overdue now, but the earth is not a lab and some recent scientific reports say that the area has changed greatly since the last eruption and the whole 600,000 year thing doesn't mean anything.

If the bulge in the bottom of the lake bursts then it will create 1ft swells on the lake and release some poisoness gas into the atmosphere...big whup who cares, but the closeing of new area's of the park in the last two weeks and the ground being quote boiling all over doesn't make me feel super great, also if it is coming who cares we can't stop it , you can't run away from it, I think it is a very interesting subject that is worth discussing but I'm not worried. I just want to ski again before armegeddon :D

The various tectonic plates move certain distances annually (i.e. they are constantly moving). The tectonic plate that I am on is supposed to have been moving something like 6" - 1' a year. It has been stuck for the past 70,000 years (or so). When it becomes unstuck, it will move 6" or so for every year it has been stuck. What that equates to is a MASSIVE earthquake. I would surely be killed. We're long overdue for this earthquake that WILL happen... but I still live here. There isn't anywhere that is 'safe.'
