Haglund's Deformity and shell fitting
Got some new boots which seem to fit OK, but I'm not 100% sure that they're going to be perfect once the liners pack out (haven't skied them yet).
When I do the finger test shell fit, I get a bit more than 15mm - however, that is from the back of my ankle. I have a pretty massive Haglund's Deformity (often incorrectly called heel spurs by skiers, although heel spurs occur UNDER your foot, not behind it) on my left foot and a still substantial one on my right.
These boots seem good as far as accommodating the bumps go, and I don't have a ton of room around the bigger bump. Just wondering if it would have been better to go with a shell size down (boots are Garmont 27.5) and try to punch a pocket for the bump.
I feel that the fitter, who seemed good in the shop, may have decided on the larger shell size due to the deformities and the fact that I was losing toenails in my old boots and 'needed to go bigger' and not necessarily due to the normal 'rules' of bootfitting.
Any of the fitters here have any insight? My main worry is that the liners will pack out too big eventually - if Intuitions will make a difference I'll probably get those after this season.
