Amazing writer and prescient genius. I had just discovered her work when she passed and was amazed she lived just down the hill from me in Lake Forest Park. Her books are definitely worth a return visit.

It's not just Atomic, every brand seems to Loctite buckles and ladders sporadically . . . and walk mode mechanisms. Not a bad idea to take everything apart when the boots are new and check....

I didn't say I'm "not" a fan of the BOA, I just think it's better to get a shell and cuff that most closely match your foot and leg first, then worry about closure system. Any Zipfit except for the Corsa will fill up the cuff and tongue and smooth out the flex for a narrow ankle, they are...

  • I've been in Lenz Finger Cap 6.0 with the 1800 aH batteries for 2 seasons and they are awesome, but you'll have to more than double the budget....

Got it. You sound like a candidate for Zipfits and a couple cork kits. That much cuff overlap also changes the flex, not necessarily in a good way. At any rate, depending on the BOA to change the basic fit of the cuff (or shell) isn't ideal....

Exactly. Everyone's feet vary in volume, width and sensitivity to pressure from day to day, month to month, and start of day to end of day. Moving a buckle one notch on the buckle ladder is actually a pretty big adjustment, and micro adjusting by twisting the bale is a PITA on the hill (especially if...

What shell are we talking about? A Hawx Ultra has the skinniest ankle shaft in the business, smaller even that a Redster ST/STR. Move the buckle ladders over and heat mold it to get a better wrap and it should be money. Salomon S/Pro Alpha, Lange Shadow LV and Cortex are all very narrow as well. Upper...

I was another naysayer until I got my first pair of Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD 130 BOA's, and found I could run them a tiny bit looser over the instep with no more fore aft foot movement than buckles alone. Finding the "right" tension each time I put them one was never an issue, and I liked being...

I've only had a couple runs on both those skis, and only on hard groomers, so can't really compare directly. However, I have dozens of memorable days in the second gen 186 Rustler 10 and haven't ever wished it were different. Stop by sometime, you can try them out....

Why are you people mounting the Revolt 121 back? It lacks neither float nor stability at speed. It does get "stubborn" in some snow condiitons, though - mounting at rec or +1 would be my call. As for the Revolt 104, forget it and go for the new Revolt 101, it's fantastic, more stable, and...

replied to Fix for cold toes. Anyone tried bootcaps?
After having two batteries smashed by hot incoming chairs (and especially if you have multiple pairs of boots llke I do) the socks become more and more appealing. The Lenz sock batteries fold into the cuff of the sock on the side, not the back of the shell....

I have a pair or Race SET as well as the Lenz; they are very thin but nowhere near as warm as the Lenz. I only use them when necessary (race boots)....

Agree, Lenz Toecap 5.1 or 6.1 (6.1 is thinner and has compression) with the 2,000 Ah battery is the best and most expensive solution. Depends on how much you ski and how much cold toes bother you....

It's not how the boot fits out of the box, but how it fits by the time you walk out the door.

Pretty much all shops have a few excellent bootfitters who can solve almost any problem (as long as the shell is appropriate), a few good bootfitters who can do most things if you know to ask,...

For sure. They put five 2 meter+ people in a Passat wagon and think nothing of it. When I bought my Alltrack, it was the only sporty small wagon with a manual on the market in the US, now there are none . . .
