I had this issue, although not right on top of my instep. My problem was on top where the ankle flexes and I used self sticking 5mm foam pad and am happy with the results. You'll probably have to redo it every now and then though....

I've used a Dakine pack 20l for inbounds skinning and all day resort laps, love it.

This seems correct to me. They really seem like mostly a touring ski to me or powder ski for lighter folks....

I might be a bad resource but there wasn’t enough ski, overall, for me. I’m 6’4” 205 and I felt tippy on the ski most of the time. The day I decided to never ski it again was 8” fresh and chopped up by 10am and it got knocked around constantly. Perhaps if I mounted behind the line a little...
