Just to clarify... it looks like the tool is skewed about a millimeter each way depending on which direction it's angled and then you split the differences with a line down the center. Looks like a really quick way to do it. Slightly more idiot proof and definitely a little less fiddly than your Slidewright-caliper...

Kingpin is 7 and 13 and Tecton is about the same. I'm guessing those are what they used as their design guides.
